All things, MA non-resident LTC

Received my new Massachusetts non-resident "class A large capacity temporary license to carry firearms" license in the mail last week (5 April 24.) I went for my interview in Chelsea on 19 December 23. The license came with the attached letter from the FRB.

If I’m reading that correctly, that means we wouldn’t need to appear in person on the 6th year intervals.
that would be great.

I was shocked to receive my NR LTC renewal today. It only took 2 months. This has to be a record. Perhaps ditching the requirements to visit Chelsea really is helping them process applications more efficiently.

I'm on my 8th year and haven't had to go back yet. I suspect they understand it's a waste of time unless something about you gets their attention.

I sent in my renewal at the beginning of March.

Bear in mind that I just did my 6-year "in-person interview" = last year (2023).

Well, I just received my letter showing that I have another renewal in-person interview this September.

Wonderful .....

I'd make a phone call and see if that was in error.

Ended up having to ask them to move my initial interview due to a business trip. Was supposed to be in July of 2023, they scheduled for Feb of this year (I mailed my application packet in Jan of 23). With that finally coming up in a few weeks, figured I’d ask what kind of questions to expect.

Forgot to update this thread, finally got mine around April 25th or so, roughly 11 weeks after the interview.

Last year (2023) I did my "in-person" in October. My LTC ran out in July. I think it was about 5 weeks later that I got it (I had to follow up by phone). That "in-person" was actually "sort of" supposed to be in 2022, but that LTC was so late it (and expired) that it pushed it into this year. This year (2024) I applied in May. They received it May 8th. I just received it yesterday (June 10th). When I saw the envelope in "Informed Delivery" I thought "Oh, shoot! I must have left something out/unsigned and they are returning my application." I was shocked to open the envelope and find my renewal (current expires in October; renewal dated to start in October). So, just under 5 weeks. Shocking! Must have something to do with Bruen is all that I can think.

As noted above, in-person "may" be required. They take prints every time, but nothing changes and a photo could be emailed in (although I look about the same for the last 10 photos). If you figure a 5 minute walk up to the office (escorted), 15 in the office and 5 back, they are spending a half hour per person, so you are only getting a max of 16 people per day seen. Plus processing time after; no wonder it takes so long for 4,600 people.

I've got one public records request in and sending another, but I need some detail you might be able to help me with. The people you've been dealing with, especially the one doing your interview. Do they work for the Mass State Police or the Firearms Records Bureau.

FRB. They are all "civilians" as far as I know. Several years ago, in fact, one gentleman worked there as a "second" job. His main job was as a dock worker on the overnight shift. I don't believe he is there any longer.
