Prior to the mark I they were called the "Ruger standard model". I have an example of the early model and got quite adept at disassembly/assembly whilst tuning the trigger. Other than watching the position of the hammer assembly should be quick/easy.

Absolutely NOT true, Jim. The MK III has a completely different takedown and reassembly sequence. It's also got a loaded chamber indicator and a magazine safety, which the Mark II doesn't have.

I had a Mark III - after taking it down and reassembling it just ONCE, I put it up for sale and bought a Mark II. The gun was accurate as hell, and shot great, but I just couldn't stand that procedure. My best friend bought it from me and loves it, however, and is enjoying shooting in the Thursday night league at Bayview Rod & Gun in S. Amboy, NJ.

MARKIII, SHMARKIII!! One good reason to get a nice S&W 617 revolver in 22. Just pop open the cylinder and clean. Easy...peasey. Had my 617 out today and was popin' saltine crackers, as targets, at 50 yards. God I love that gun! Oh yeah, no FTFs or FTEs either.

Turn that man-card in Mark. Men take stuff apart because they can. It's all in the challenge.
I think I've had mine apart a half dozen times in 27-years. Gringo...Drop me a line - I'll help you get it back together. Ruger Mark I's II's and I suppose III's are great guns. Not owning one, (or more) is a shame...
OK, you have taken 'em apart, so you can keep your card, you're just one double-secret probation 'till you fully get with the program.

Taking it apart is cake.......... Trust me I started this thread.

Actually since being shown the light I have taken it apart and got it back together half a dozen times. Yeah just to show I can now.

One of the biggest motivators for me to buy a MKIII was because it's supposedly very difficult to dis/reassemble. I have yet to take down a gun to the last pin and not be able to put it back together. Yeah I know I'm being a braggart.

The MKIII is one of the most difficult I've ever done. Beretta 92FS was pretty tough too. Just this past weekend I took down my new-to-me CZ82 and !!! Crap that thing is complicated!

But if you like the MKIII, which I do, you'll get the hang of taking it down eventually and it'll be second nature.

I have an old Mark I and of course I just had to take it apart. Like you I got it apart and thought that it was pretty easy so I took it apart again. I struggled with it for months trying to get it back together. I still do not know why it finally went together and worked. I will never take it apart again.

I thought all NESers could read:

    http://www.ruger.com/products/_manuals/markIII.pdf

    http://www.ruger.com/products/_manuals/markII.pdf

    http://www.ruger.com/products/_manuals/markI.pdf

Oh, I forgot. Good Americans don't read instructions. We already know how to do it.
