‘Bad and Getting Worse’: Dianne Feinstein Is Losing Her Memory, Concerned Senate Sources Say

Are you sure? I always thought it was the VPC who coined the term back in the 80s.
you might be right, but I recall her in the 90s using that term to associate law abiding citizens as criminals in such a diabolical way that it stuck in everyone's collective memory as scary back rifle that nobody should own.

This is totally an actual thing.

The essay The Last Hippie in Oliver Sacks's An Anthropologist on Mars
is about a Deadhead who had an untreated brain tumor utterly kill
the circuitry which allows short-term memories to be archived as long-term memories.

The patient's favorite band member was the late Pigpen,
who died some time after the patient's tumor fried his ability to remember anything.
So the patient had no clue that Pigpen wasn't coming down to breakfast.

And OBTW, short-term memory is a lot shorter than people blather on about.
99 44/100% of all popular references to "short-term memory" are as full of crap
as 99 44/100% of all gun culture references to "fine motor skills".

The patient was taken to a Dead concert, and he couldn't wait to see Pigpen
come on stage. Informed that Pigpen had died some years back,
he was grief stricken, but in short order resumed eagerly anticipating Pigpen's entrance...

There's this, plus she (her people) lied about why she was in the hospital for so long. Shingles, Ramsay Hunt syndrome, and encephalitis. But who's counting?

Ted Kennedy’s last few years in office weren’t much different, especially the last year he was in.

There is no credible risk that her seat would be lost to an R or even a more moderate democrat (to the extent such a thing exists) so what exactly is happening?

The thing is if rubber lips is in the seat that seat is a lot less dangerous to us than it is if a functional person is in it.

It’s a free vote. She will vote however she is told and never remember it happening.

The fact that she is being used this way is shameful.

Pelosi's daughter is the one shepherding her around the capitol and telling her what to do.

Pelosi supports Adam Schiff in the run to replace her.

If she resigns (or dies) Newsome has promised to appoint a black woman to the seat until the election.

Congresswoman Barbra Lee from California (a black female) has also announced to run in the race.

Pelosi is propping Feinstein up to enhance Schiff's chances in a primary by denying Lee the advantages of incumbency.

Good summary. LA Times had an editorial going into more detail.

As for Congresswoman Lee, she's just a young pup at 76 😲

At the end of the day the only people responsible for this woman being in office are the moon bat crazy ass voters in California.

I'm not sure where you draw the exact age but I am totally in favor of a mental competency test for all elected officials. There are way too many elected officials that are older than dirt who have just lost it mentally yet somehow they keep getting reelected.

Does everyone forget Strom Thermond was over 100 when he finally retired?

He did have a distinguished military record during WWII, so there is that. He switched from Democrat to Republican in 1964.

I do agree that there should be term limits.

Toward the end of Thurmond's Senate career, critics suggested his mental abilities had declined. His supporters argued that, while he lacked physical stamina due to his age, mentally he remained aware and attentive, and maintained a very active work schedule, showing up for every floor vote. He stepped down as Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee at the beginning of 1999, as he had pledged to do in late 1997.[284] Retrospectively, a Senate aide stated that "for his last ten years, Thurmond didn’t know if he was on foot or on horseback", while a 2020 New Yorker article stated that he was "widely known" by the end of his career to be "non-compos mentis."[285]

In August 1999, Thurmond underwent surgery for an enlarged prostate. In September, he was admitted to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center for tests.[286] In October 2000, Thurmond collapsed while lunching with a staff member and an acquaintance at a restaurant in Alexandria, Virginia and was admitted to Walter Reed; his spokeswoman Genevieve Erny stated that the collapse was found to have been unrelated to previous illnesses.[287] On the morning of October 2, 2001, Thurmond was admitted to Walter Reed after fainting at his Senate desk. He was accompanied in the ambulance by fellow Republican and retired heart transplant surgeon Bill Frist.[288][289]

I remember it, it was sad to see and shouldn't have happened.

There are a number of politicians who just refuse to gracefully leave, and craven asses who use that ego for their own ends.

Democrats Robert Byrd and John Dingell come to mind...

Bottom line: voters are stupid and don't take their responsibility seriously.

They need to see past their own party or their loyalty to whoever's been in office for years, and vote in their own best interests. If they're not doing that (and they're not), then maybe this whole thing has just been a bad idea from the start. Lol.

So true. I still can't believe they voted in a woman who basically used the dead bodies of Milk and Moscone to advance her political career. Forget the AWB crap - she was scum back in 1978.

need to see past their own party
we are in a state of tribal politics, as intense as it ever was, so, not possible and will not happen. before at least it was imperative to respect moral limits and at least have some pretense of decency - now it is only measured by the level of expressed hate toward opposite tribe. whoever manages to appear more bloodthirsty - goes ahead.

cheating, scheming, lying - all is fine as long as it gets done in the name of hurting the opponent. and both parties are the same, so, the time for the 2 party system is just done, it became cancer for this country.
