I have 2 10/22 carbines, one I bought brand new, and one that is about 23 years old that was given to me by a friend of the family. I love to shoot them, but they are to short for me. I added a recoil pad to lengthen the LOP and a comb raiser to get the right cheek weld, but I am constantly jamming my finger into the barrel band when bringing the rifle up to fire.

Is the barrel band necessary? I see other models do not have them, if they are not, why even come with it?

Thanks
Ed

No it is not needed. I guess it might keep the main mounting screw from getting bent if you knock the barrel on something, but most of the fancy stocks, and even the new Ruger factory stocks, don't use them.
