I know they have a stainless model.

When they say stainless do they mean that the finish or the whole barrel is stainless?

If anybody know where I can get one with a stainless barrel before February, please post.

Also, how hard is it to put technical sites on? MassMark gave me a link for sites but the site is on vacation for now. Can somebody recommend a good site for it?

Dick's has a stainless model in a synthetic stock. I think the price is $249. I'm not sure if it's stainless steel or a stainless finish.

For installing the Tech-Sights, check this and this. The hardest thing you may encounter is taking the old sights off.
Here's the link for Tech-Sights and the Project Appleseed site has a LTR sticky in the general section. There's lots of good info in that Sticky.

I have the 'stainless' synthetic model. The barrel looks like it is stainless steel. The receiver feels like aluminum.

I think I saw one at Dicks sporting goods in Natick last week. You could call them. I bought a standard model there for $180 (there was a $10 off sale in their flyer). Buying a gun there was a real pain in neck though, the guy took about 45 minutes to fill out all the paper work, I don't know why it was going so slowly, i was the only customer there).

Be careful. I heard that the newer 10/22s are actually PAINTED silver. And they cheapened it out with a plastic trigger guard...and possibly plastic in some other places as well. [rolleyes]

I bought one of the 10/22 rifles that Walmart stocks last summer, mostly to get the longer stock and barrel. Mine is a stainless barrel, painted "stainless" colored aluminum receiver, and black painted aluminum trigger housing, added Tech Sights. Brake cleaner would take the paint right off - which was good, because they had painted the inside of the receiver in an attempt to decrease reliability and customer satisfaction. The newer ones are coming with a plastic trigger housing, but I haven't handled one yet. I'm not optimistic about that "improvement", either.

If I were looking to put together a nice stainless 10/22, I'd look for one (new or used) with a stainless barrel, and an aluminum trigger housing, in any color. Strip the Ruger paint off, and paint the receiver (on the outside) and trigger with Duracoat Stainless. You could, if you found a good deal on a blued 10/22 replace the barrel with a stainless aftermarket barrel or a used Ruger one.
