Right now, I have the stock sights.

I might want to do either some sort of scope (4X max, and maybe 30mm for brightness in dawn/dusk hunting), or fiber optic sights, or a red-dot type of sight.

I also am intrigued by the Tech-sights, but they are more than half of what I paid for the rifle. Can Tech-sights work with a fiber front sight? That would be the best of all worlds for my purposes.

Thanks.

I'm not sure about tech-sites with the fiber optic front. You'd have to get the TSR-200 otherwise you'd have no elevation adjustment. You'd need to get the fiber a good distance above the barrel too since the tech-sites front post is way up there. The more I think about it it probably wouldn't. If you're looking for irons you'll love the tech-sites and the amount you paid for them will be a distant memory. If you want a scope/dot just get that since you can't combine the two. The tech site takes up the holes where the rail would attach.

Tech sights are great IMO. The reason that they are more than half the cost you paid for the rifle is because the rifle is half what it should be without good sights! Stock sights suck on the 10/22

I don't get the big deal about sights on a 10/22 unless you are dedicated to using peep style sights or don't have that good of vision.

I've never had a problem with my stock sights. Maybe its my eye sight, or maybe its because I'm used to foreign military rifles with notched ladder sights, but I can tear up an X ring at 50 yards with no problem using the factory sights on my 10/22.

I just can't use notched ladder sights. I never have been able to. I'm so much better with peep sights. That said, I have a scope on my 10/22.

For the first time in 26-years, my 10/22 is sporting a scope. I like the idea of the see-throughs Milsurps has on his and may give those a go. I put a Simmons "22-Mag" on my Ruger a few weeks ago and man is it a nice scope for short money...

The 22 Mag scope and see through rings in my post is what I have on one of my 10/22s.

We'll be twins - going to order those rings tonight. The Simmons 22 Mag is easily the best scope for the money I have ever seen....We have them at DSG if anyone in the Pittsfield area wants one. The included rings are lame looking, but effective, but the scope is literally built for .22's and under $50.00....

Could you tell me more about these "see through" rings? I thought you don't need rings with Ruger. Or is it something else you don't need?

You will need an scope mount (piece of dove tailed aluminum) that screws to the holes in the receiver (use locktite this part likes to loosen up). To that you attach a scope with correctly sized rings. I have friends that have used crappy ass scopes on 10/22 for appleseed shoots with good results. They do tend to loose zero and I find that the crosshairs get fuzzy depending on your eye position.

Shoot thru rings let you use the stock sights and a scope. Basically the scope is raised up a bit and there is a channel that you can look thru. I have not seen them for the 10/22....probably out there somewhere.

Stay away from those cheap Kwik-Site scope rings. The aluminum is very soft and if you bang it at all you will throw off your zero. My buddy had a Rem 700 w/ a set up like that, banged the scope going into the woods and took two shots at deer and missed them both. He later went to sand pit to verify he was shooting over a couple of feet to the side! He later mounted std Redfield base and rings and has never had an issue since.

Those see through Weaver see thru rings are much more rugged than the Kwik-Site ones!

The stock Ruger 10/22 sights work fine. They are much nicer quality than on many of the other stock .22's IMHO.

Be careful to use correct length receiver screws on the 10/22. Too short and you will strip out the receiver (cheap cast aluminum pot metal crap).

You might look at these:
Rear
Williams WGRS
Williams FP

Front
HiViz .500
Williams

The Tech sight front uses an AR15 sight post, so any of the fiber optic ones will work there, too. The factory front sight base is way too short for the Tech Sight rear by itself. Either way, a sight on the back of the receiver will give you a much longer sight radius over the factory barrel sights.
