Just picked up a 10/22 target model with the hogue over mold stock. Anyone here with experience with the model, or heavy barreled ruger 10/22s? More interested in the ruger barrels. I have a 10/22 carbine and figured by the time I restock/ rebarrel it, I'd be in the ballpark of the new target model and came across a deal on a NIB I couldn't pass up.

Its a great gun. But your trigger still sucks, and your chamber is still sloppy.

Check out this guy. He will get the accuracy out of that ruger that its capable of. The Ruger heavy CHF barrels are supposedly very very good. They just need a more precise chamber cut in them.

I had him do this "full tune up" on a skinny barreled carbine for me. Its much more fun and accurate than it was. All for not much more that the cost of a few Volqhartsen parts.

WOW, I appreciate that dcmdon, thats not terribly far from me, I could just drive it to his shop. I don't see how he can do that amount of work at that price but I'm not complaining. I just got the rifle and haven't shot it yet, who knows, it might shoot like a champ, but looks like if I want it to do better, hes the guy to go to. I've heard others with the same sentment as you in that the barrels and bores are great but that the chamber is lacking. Thanks for that link!

You are very welcome. I've got plans to build a medium budget appleseed rifle. I'm waiting for the 22" barreled 10/22s to come back in stock. Then I'll send it off to CPC and install a set of tech sights.

I drove mine up. I'm in Essex, CT.

One other thing. If you go on rimfirecentral.com, you will find a ton of info. Including a bunch of great references for CPC in middletown. Rimfirecentral.com is THE place to go for 10/22 advice. Better even than the Ruger sites.

+1!

Definitely. Just do this. He has been the source for the best tuned bolts in 10/22s for years. A full tuneup on your HB Ruger will be amazing and FAR less expensive than swapping out parts.

He gets $189 for a full tune up. That includes

1) Cutting back and rechambering the barrel
2) Trigger job
3) Squaring and tuning the bolt

He may also recrown the bbl. I'm not sure.

Its a steal.
