2018 / 2019 Winter Warrior Postal Match

Pretty tangential but I know people that might have suggestions would be reading this thread: any recommendations on how to get a websling slide tab back on? Mine got kind of stuck in the keeper and came off when I was pulling it and I don't really know how to get it back on. I assume it doesn't really do anything other than preventing fraying and maybe making it easier to pass through the keeper? I got it from Orion like two years ago.
Most after market slings do this .
I found the only way to get it to stay is use a hollow end roll pin punch and hard wood or chunk of lead and give it a few good spot whacks. I did a triangle pattern on the last 2. Hit it hard enough to displace and squish metal

3 weeks after my heart attack, and I’m strong enough to bring out my new, mint, and matched byf43 Mauser

52F, but ice still on the range. Crummy ‘53 Yugo, but it’s all I had. Definitely need new glasses; very hard to see the target. Looks like a 78 and an 80

Nice shooting, T, and a beautiful rifle. My Luger is a BYF '43 (I think '43, maybe '42). It needs a companion rifle for sure. Probably will be tough to find one as nice as yours.

Trying to distract bunny and get ready for tomorrow. Have to be fast. I guess the Danish Garand has to go out at least once. Got 6 targets and 72 rounds to give it a real try.

Careful there, T- I think the bun is trying to apply an inspection cartouche. Might look like this:

173 grain M1 ball bullet

Fun day, did not get a lot of time and shooting from the bench off the wood block does not make for a decent accuracy test. Glad to get out though.

These 173 grain M1 ball projectile and 46 grains of H4895 felt like a sledge hammer after shooting my 200 yard target and cast loads for years.

Sighters are #1&2 and after 2 more shots my spot scope fogged up (cheap Job Lot). After my over adjusted sighter I decided to use the "cant see them must be in the black" method and just ran the rest.

170 grain cast loads with 16 grains of 2400..
these are a different profile bullet than what I usually run in this rifle

1903a3 springfield. I bought this rifle off a old timer who shot it through out the 50s and retired it to shoot deer 60s-70s. Its 1 finger silky smooth action and has a great trigger. Bought one of the CMP C stocks when they had them, Top rifle.

I had a bit of a problem seeing (wrong glasses and my magX glass was not in my bag?) the rear sight elevation marks and over adjusted a bit from shot 1 to 2, 3rd shot was close enough to verify elevation I stepped up one notch on elevation and 1 left. Other than yanking the last shot to the right did pretty well for a different bullet with out doing any trials. I could also tell Im most likely going to see a Rx change after my visit. The front post was a bit fuzzy even with the .100" blade.

Good shooting! Those are some beautiful '03s. I definitely need to add one to the collection lol

1. 6 Liberty 50 gr (1500fps.250ft/lbs) 6 Remington JSWC 130 gr (790/173) at 35 feet
SD low, Remington high
2. 12 Remington JSWC at 35 feet
3/4. 10 Remington at 50 feet. 82 and a 78

All double action. Need to try some single action "accuracy" shooting.

Very nice, light, small frame revolver, decent caliber, and 4” barrel accuracy and ballistics

Squeaked in at 31 degrees today. Clear skies and no snow or rain. Cold enough so that I had the rifle range to myself. All targets shot at SR-1C repair centers at 100 yards

First target was 20 rounds slow fire, sling supported prone with my Colt Sporter Target. That's reasonably close to a M16A2, so that counts I think. Shooting Federal M855.
Had 20/20 hits, scoring a 185/200, 1X

Second target was rapid fire 20 rounds, unsupported prone with my Yugo M59/66 SKS. It's stock, so that definitely counts. Shooting Yugo M67 surplus
Had 11/20 hits, scoring 95/200, 0X

Had some time this afternoon so I decided to take my 1918 Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk. III* out for a go. She's seen some action but she's still a good shooter with a mint bore. I wasn't planning it but I wound up with 3 targets lol.

20190210_140419.jpg

Target 1 - 87-0x

I was pretty bummed with this target. I was going to chuck it but I figured what the hell, I'll include it. This was shot after 5 sighters (on a separate target) to see where my hold was. I found I had to hold on the right edge of the black....I guess I gotta drift my front sight some

Target 2 - 95-0x?

I wasn't too pleased with my first target so I figured I'd shoot a second one and wound up with this...

This is better! I have no idea where that flyer came from in the 7 ring ... otherwise it would have been an excellent group.

I don't know why this grouped so much better than my first attempt..... maybe the barrel needed to warm up or get some fouling in it, or a combination of the two. This group is what my SMLE can normally do if I do my part

My second target came out so well I decided to try for a third...

Like my last target I had one random flyer. Otherwise it's a good group. The shot in the lower portion of the 9 ring was me. I jerked the trigger a bit on that one lol

If anyone's interested I was running some handloads (usual disclaimers apply...). Neck sized, once-fired PPU brass with 150gr Hornady Interlocks on top of 39gr of IMR3031. Nothing too crazy but my SMLE seems to really like this load if I do my part

I was testing out my hand loads and tried it out on the reduced SR-1 target to see how well I can shoot. The loads shot great but I was mediocre at best.

Then I went to read the rules again and realized that the way my rifle is set up probably disqualifies it... It's a K31 with the diopter sight (no optics, just adjustable aperture) and muzzlebreak that doubles as a dampner. Would the rifle qualify if I removed the break (Swiss shoot style)? I have no problem shooting without it once I can get a proper shooting mat. The rifle bag is not enough on a concrete ground without the break for me. My elbows don't like it.

The sights are more of a "legal" issue than the brake. Although its a fun match so . ....you need to ask the match director.

What sights are those. Im thinking of getting a set once i get my bills straightened out. Going to sell the SAI M1a soon and pick up a few fun things.

I have the older version of the set that SwissProducts makes -> (https://www.swissproductsusa.com/). They call it the K31 PS diopter. It is legal to use in Swiss matches. I highly recommend it!

Planning to bring a bunch of stuff tomorrow on my day off. Hopefully I'l have the range to myself so I won't get stuck waiting to make the range cold. Match M1 still in pieces around the house but I think I'll take the service grade among others.

I've had a serious hankering to get my M39 out in the snow, and a opportunity opened up this (early) evening around 4:30pm, so I packed up and headed to the range. I got there just before 5pm, so daylight was thinning to say the least. Still plenty of reflection off the snow to see the target in low light though. Some day, someone is going to bitch about 'some weirdo laying down in the snow, shooting after sunset' like the rules forbid, but until then i'm going to keep making entries for bragging rights that have YET to be earned (by me).

Speaking of which...what's the top score, Mr. Mountain?

Anywhoooo...without further adoooooooo...My Finnish Sako M39 war dog likes to shoot HIGH! like about a foot, but WHAT AN AMAZING GROUP for shooting in the near dark!!!

IMG_2322.jpg IMG_2323.jpg

anyway...it was REALLY getting dark by my second string and there were a couple cars in the lot over by the pistol house, so I had to get my shots off quick with a fresh hold at 6 o' clock leaving a little bit of white in between the edge of the target and the black.

to give you some prespective...

IMG_2324.jpg

still shot OK for what it was...i think this rifle has some serious potential once I get a taller front sight post.

IMG_2325.jpg IMG_2326.jpg

and it was so decent, I figured I'd take the target indoors and get another shot of it for you score sticklers hounding me for my pasties. definitely looks like a 90/1x to me. Without those high shots I would have been in the pink for sure!

IMG_2328.jpg

but i wasn't...so i'm not. but i live to try another day.

You get the high score for pasties! I haven’t seen someone with such an affinity for pasties since- well never mind... [banana]

That first group is very impressive! The second group looks almost as tight. What were you shooting for ammo?

IMG_2331.jpg IMG_2332.jpg huh...didn't realize RUAG made commie ammo. It's really aesthetically pleasing stuff too...nice and shiny! I'll take a picture of the cases next time i get out with a mosin.

alright, alright...'nuf said...i'll change out my targets. if there's one thing you guys should know about me by now it's that i'm absurdly 'frugal'. that's a nice way of saying cheap prick. i save the pennies where i can so I can spend the dollars on the metal and wood things.

p.s. stand by for incoming today!

Fess up. We know what you were thinking when you ordered the value pack of pasties.

Yeah, we've all heard the excuse that it's protection for running marathons... :D

Tried 8 pics with my 90 year Kodak as I can’t carry a rifle for the nonce. Need to use a magnifying loop to see through the aperture. Wonder if anything came out.
