2022 Deer Season

Caught this little 6 pointer on Saturday. Came out of the thicket to my right chasing a doe. Shot him running at 22 yards. Watched him drop after running about 40 yards. Seconds later heard my buddies crossbow go off. He got the doe the buck was chasing. Pretty amazing experience. We called them Romeo & Juliet…such a tragedy for these young lovers.

A great opportunity to collect fresh doe in estrus tarsals and maybe even urine from a local hot doe.

Congrats on the harvests.

As you can see in picture 2” snow over night. Saw a 3 point twice this morning. First time walked by second time chasing two doe. I had a brief view of a bobcat, no shot. The snow makes seeing a bobcat a little easier

The picture of doe from a few min ago. Deer are so pretty against the snow.

Just started snowing again. During lunch break I found the snow chains in the shed. I might need them getting out on the weekend to go home based on which forecast comes to pass

Spent the last 3 days of Muzzle and the first 4 of rifle in Pittsburg NH. Quite warm until the last couple days. Saw one cow moose, no deer. Pittsburg has more muzzle loader hunters these days and without doe permits some won't come. Not a lot of hunters and in those big woods you need hunters pushing deer. I enjoy the area as I have been going up there since I was 2 yrs old.

No deer sighted this morning. However these two Tom turkeys provided entertainment. They were around for 90 min. They did wander within range if it had been turkey season. Then one became curious and walked over to give me a close look. Like 8 ft close He didn’t spook and returned to his buddy to continue feeding

So tonight’s report. Two does around. They laid down in sight but even with snow on ground they disappear fast. A dusting of snow landing on them didn’t help.

Near sunset a six point snuck behind me but I caught him going away. He went about 15 feet uphill in woods and lights out. I had a short drag downhill ( on snow) to get him to where I could get to him with UTV. I really like dragging downhill on snow! Give a tug and get out of the way.

An edit with update. Weighed the deer today before processing -165 lbs. big health boy With lots of fat

I went back to field near where I killed him at 10:30am to pick up a few items I had left at my stand. 3 inched of new snow overnight, making about 6” on the ground. These two deer were on the food plot and didn’t leave when I showed up. They just moved towards other end of field and watched me. Hunger trumps fear.

Freezing in a ground blind in Rangeley Maine.
Day three of a three day hunt through an outfitter. 5 hunters in my group . Two full days and only one buck. Great group of guys. Outfitter is excellent.
Not too far from me. My dads got a hunting/skiing camp near Kingfield. I was up the first week but didn’t see anything. Too damn hot. My dad is up there now and has jumped a couple but couldn’t get sights on them.

Dropped a freezer filler doe last night. Had a broadside shot at 25 with her looking at me. She spun when i released. Got a front entry which worked out just fine. She bolted 50 yards and piled up. Not the buck i have been looking for but I am still looking for him :)

Sitting in my stand this am pretty quiet
Passed on a doe with two little ones yesterday.
Was supposed to be in Northern zone NY this week to hunt at camp but everybody bailed. Not much fun going to camp by myself.
Might check out some public land in Southern zone NY tomorrow still not sure weather is calling for 40mph winds.

How’s it been going for you guys so far? Anyone have early season success?
The old man has been across the street in the neighbor's woods, but the only thing he's seen so far is a bobcat.

Meanwhile, _I'm_ riding right up to them over in Rockhouse (which isn't hunted), on my noisy old Stinky.

Not a deer or a hunt but I thought it fit here. I killed a deer Friday and I typically butcher them up in steps over a few days. Sunday I finished breaking it down to quarters and taking out the backstraps. I tossed the head, bottom of legs and some trimmed bits, into the back end of my back yard and setup a cellular camera (pictures only) and another one that takes videos.

This female yote, assuming Yotes piss like our pooches do, cames back multiple times that night around between 11-1 to haul off the peices in the same direction. She must be building a nice little cache by now! So now I have another way of disposing of a carcass vs the normal trash day pickup :) Well except for habituating the yotes to my backyard. They have been back there all the time for years but I won't keep leaving them presents, this was just a test since my last deer head was stolen by accident when I left it out side the shed on a rock wall for the night and it was gone the next day with my tag still pinned in it's ear!!

Back from NY yesterday.
No luck with the big buck running the hilltop, although I saw him three times. Crafty 10 point running with does but being careful.
Wind, cold and some snow.
Five guys hunting, four buck tags filled.
I took a small crotch horn Sunday after passing on him on Saturday. He came out of same woods on same drive so I put him in the freezer.
Great time as always hunting on my friend's farm for almost 40 years....

Hunting great woods conservation in Mansfield. I’ve seen more deer there in the last two months than I have in the last five years combined. You think I could get one to walk past my stand during hours.
I see cars trucks parked along 140/495 all the time, is it heavily pressured? Same cars/trucks, no luck huh lol?

Not really. Three four at the most on a day parked at oak st lot bow season. Anyone on 495 would most likely have to go through the beagle club which is private property so I doubt anyone parked there is in my area. I was only one out yesterday. Not even any hikers shotgun will bring out the knuckleheads though
