.22 bolt action extraction

So after about 500 trouble-free rounds through my marlin xt22 i finally decided to clean it. Next time I bring it to the range im having extraction problems ~1 out of every 8 rounds. Basically opening the bolt and pulling back is not grabbing the spent casing and ejecting it. If I drop the mag and work the bolt a 2nd time, it will usually grab and eject.

Any ideas? I don't recall doing anything damaging during my cleaning, but may be guilty of over-oiling the bolt.

Does the extractor feel gritty if you move it with your finger? Maybe some of the freed up crud migrated in there when you cleaned it?
