Anyone had experience with 3" 1911s?

Looking for a very compact 1911 CCW package. Officer's frame with 3" barrel.
Considering Colt Defender, Kimber Ultra, or Springfiled Micro.

1911 manual of arms is instinctive for me, so not interested in any other platforms. Although the Kahr PM45 looks nice.

Thanks.

I've shot the springfield and it's a nice gun. I thought it was accurate and very compact. Like all small .45's, the recoil is pretty snappy but not uncontrollable. I have no experience with the pm45 but I carry a p45 daily. I like it much better than the Glock 30 I carried in the past.

I can tell you that I've been happy with my Defender, but I really only use it for competition a couple of times a year.

Respectfully,
jkelly

If your just looking for a compact 45acp you might want to look at a S&W 457. 3 3/4 inch barrel and it has to be one of the most reliable pistols ever made.

7+1 Rounds
Front Sight: Dot Front Sight
Rear Sight: Fixed
Frame: Small
Finish: Blue / Black
Overall Length: 7 1/4"
Material: Alloy
Weight Empty: 29 oz.

In the 5 years I've had mine it's never jammed or failed to fire any thing It's been feed.

Thank you all for the info. Looks like the Denfender is the direction I'm heading towards. The new S&W Pro-compact has a fine fit & finish, but the external extractor puts me off a bit.

FWTW, S&W just came out with the Pro-Series a 3" 1911.

I don't suppose anyone here has picked one up just yet ?

Not available in MA. How is that for ironic. [rolleyes]

There is nothing wrong with the external extractor. I've had my SW 1911 PD for over a year and it's been very solid.
