Got a guy who's looking for a mini 14 in .308 but we're not even sure if such a thing exists. I don't think I've ever heard of one. Is there ?

I heard Ruger announced one in 1985 but it never went in to production.

Does any one make one?

The only .30 caliber Mini I am aware of is - oddly enough - the Mini Thirty, chambered in 7.62 X 39 for those who, for some bizarre reason, wanted an American gun in a ComInBloc caliber.

Ruger had big plans for their new .308 model "XGI", they made a few prototypes and spent a ton of R&D money to get it right. They even ran magazine ads announcing the soon-to-be released rifle, but it never materialized. They claimed to have encountered some accuracy problems that they couldn't iron out, then they scrapped the whole thing. People were lined up with anticipation to get their hands on one of these puppies, but alas, it was not to be..........

There was one listed on Gunbroker about a year ago... Came with all kinds of documentation, etc... Pure collectors item, included a warning in the auction listing not to shoot it.

There was never a Mini-14 in .308. Ruger announced the production of a larger rifle in .308 called, I believe, the XGI which was never produced or distributed commercially. The reason being that there were issues with the design and Bill Ruger ultimately decided to can the whole project. They were advertised, however.

The Mini-14 in 7.62 Russian is the only .30 caliber Mini-14 produced and marketed.

I thought 7.62x39mm used .311, not .308.

It does. The Mini may actually have a .308 bore, however. I vaguely recall hearing something to that effect, but cannot understand why that would be. How many people reload 7.62 X39 at all, still less using .308 bullets?

This sounds like the Mini 14 in .223.

If Ruger thought the .308 was too bad to release, I can't imagine how friggin' bad it was. Holy crap.

oddly, I don't know either [rolleyes].....but the Mini-30 is sure fun to shoot, turned out to be my favorite plinker.

The mini 30 actually shoots a .308 caliber bullet if you measure it. So by rights they are a dime a dozen..[wink]

YUP! Funny when ppl use chamberings and calibers as though they're interchangably equal.
There was some XGI's manufactured but none entered the general population. Ruger did auction off one in the not too distant past.
