Anyone shooting .50 Beowulf? My son just bought one and with Alexander Arms ammo it's awful. I'd call a 6" 100 yard group off the bench with a scoped rifle, pretty bad. He's a very good shot.

I don't shoot the 50 Beowulf but I do 458 Socom, I mostly load my own nowadays but the factory ammo I have used has been SBR and Underwood, I think I got around 1.5-2" at 100 with the Underwood. More a result of my crappy shooting probably. Pretty sure they both make ammo for the 50Bw.

I have a 50 Beowulf Alexander upper mounted with a RRA lower. I haven't fired it in quite some time. I've only fired at 8" and 12" plates at 100 yards and have had no trouble getting consistent hits. I can't even remember what kind of optic I have but I think its a 1x6. Fun to shoot with a big bang but I don't really know how accurate it is.

Maybe your expectations are off. Wasn't 50 Beo meant to be a short range car buster.

Yes. It's not a long range firearm.

Who made the barrel?

Seems like something is off, given the barn door groups. I don't shoot 50 Beo but I do have a .458 socom AR. It's an early Radical upper and despite how some like to pig pile on Radical I have had zero issues and excellent accuracy. Same ragged hole at 50 and less than 2" at 100. I have to think that 50 Beowulf is capable of similar results. Maybe try reloads before digging deeper into the upper? I'm a fan of 4198 and 300's or 325's for the .458.

Depends on your measuring stick.
.50 Beo was designed for use under 100 yards.

Perhaps, but with 325's to 350's both the .458 and 50 Beowulf are still above 1500 fps. Yeah, the BC's suck for these projectiles but that's still no reason for the OP's son to get 6" groups at 100 unless something is up with the loads and/or upper; or the wind is gusting like crazy. These things are still carrying 1600 to 1800 ft lbs of energy at 100 yards.

Which is why I asked about the barrel.

Dont miss the forest by looking at the tree. I had a mgi hydra beo barrel that ran about 6MOA, and I've shot 1moa out of other AR's.

The whole point of this round was to punch through windscreens and cars to take out drivers at things like roadblocks.

The upper is from Atheris. Reloading stuff is showing up tomorrow and I'll load 300, 325 and 350 grain. My other thought is to try a different scope and mount.
