Tied for 3rd place in number of murders, NYC stands proud that their dead were not shot to death.

St Louis and KC are doing it wrong, with half the murders but 90%+ with guns. They need to adopt measures to motivate more civilized means of killing, like knives, fists and bats.

"...in east New York. Sgt. Damon Martin runs the field intelligence office there, and the walls of his office are plastered with photos of the guns that he and his officers have seized."

Mugshots of criminal guns taken off the streets...

Standard trick about how to lie with statistics - show only part of the graph to make the differences on a graph look larger. This trick works on a point graph, bar grand and line graph but not so much on a pie chart.

They will twist this into the fault of border states .... claiming that its them and their "laxed" gun laws that are allowing guns to come into their state.

That's how they always do things.

So very true! Using the Rand Gun Policy Explorer, one can turn off and on 17 gun laws (permissive and restrictive) and see outcomes based on the surveyed opinions of "gun violence experts" - almost 100 participants, mostly favoring more restrictive gun policies. Even in the extreme, when all permissive policies (permit-less carry, stand-your-ground and elimination of Gun-Free Zones) are disabled and all restrictive policies (UBC, permits, etc) are enabled, the models shows a 52% reduction in firearms deaths when *only* considering those who support more restrictive gun policies. It rises 10% when those who support more permissive gun policies are considered.

So yeah, NYC, with almost every restrictive gun policy on the books, sees that ~50% drop in gun-deaths. But still comes in tied for 3rd place for most gun deaths. And ranks #5 in Property Crime Rate among major US cities List of United States cities by crime rate - Wikipedia

Good news! in NYC, if you're murdered, it's 50/50 whether it will be by gunshot - getting your stuff stolen is a small price to pay for that privilege.

Funniest part of that article was when the pop-up asked me if I wanted to support unbiased journalism. It's so nice to see they are supporting others besides themselves at NPR.

Exactly. New ad campaign for LA: you have a better chance of being murdered here than most other cities, but at least it will be less likely than by a gun than some other cities. Oh man, the idiocy over the obsession with so-called “gun violence” vs any other violence is insane.
