Was at Four Seasons this afternoon doing a transfer and when I was finishing up the guy next to me was buying a brand new M&P 15 Sport. I asked the guy behind the counter how many they had in stock, he said they had a few left. However FS is now selling them for $840 vs the $640 they had them listed for a few weeks ago prior to the AWB scare.

Any idea if they saw a price increase from Smith? Or is it just free market at work?

I would have to assume most manufacturers are paying a shit ton of OT right now trying to meet demand. That OT is going to drive baseline prices up.

did you see the post above yours? the price isn't THAT high (relatively speaking and given the current market conditions...), and it can most definitely be explained by the manufacturer having to add a third shift or pay overtime. MSRP goes up, the dealers of course need their percentage, then you get the final price.

i wouldn't call this gouging for a brand new AR right now when there are bottom-tier, used ARs selling in the classifieds here right now for nearly 3x the price.

What does the sport model get you over the regular MP-15?

M&P 15 sport is a basic ar15 S&W made the lower with a forged trigger guard as part of the lower, it also is made without a dust cover or forward assist to save a bit on costs. I believe the barrel is not chrome lined however it is lined with S&W's standard barrel lining.

great entry level ar15.

A friend of mine works at a company that builds fixtures and equipment for manufacturing companies. Two weeks ago they received a order from a major firearms company (not S&W) for AR related production equipment. So at least one company is investing in production line equipment.

M&p sport is equipped with a 16" melonite treaded barrel with a 1:8 twist. Its really set up well and i dont miss the dust cover or forward assist. The iron sights on it are top notch and its quite accurate. If anyone wants to try one i hit the lee sportsmans club on wednesday afternoons!

Let's agree to disagree.

If others are gouging at twice the price and someone is gouging at a 25%, it is still gouging. If one chooses to pay more for something because it is worth it to them, that is one thing. However if S&Ws cost is the same (and it likely is as they contract for many of these at a certain price before the inflated price non sense began) and they are now charging more because they are playing on one's fears, they are doing nothing more than taking advantage of customers. Now if they have some new cost associated with paying employees more to increase production, I'll change my opinion. Until I know they are doing that, I'll consider them gouging.

Have you seen the gun shelf in FS? It's almost empty. You are in luck if you find any new AR variant on the shelf. Let's imagine a gun store with no gun to display. All phone call coming in is asking for AR. Economic 101, Supply & demand. Let's the price gouging continues.

Sent it from iPhone 5 LTE

I went there today for a M&P 15-22 to plink with, left with an overpriced M&P 15 - I'm fine with the price which is all that matters in sales transaction. First AR and only long gun I own. Picked up a 20 round pre ban as well.

I wasn't the only one who was fine with the price, at least 5 left within the time I was waiting for the payment/background/etc...on the way out a well dressed business man asked how long I was on the waiting lost to get one, I said they are in back, just ask - off he went to buy one as well.

The place was unbelievably crowded for such a small space, but everyone was very polite. First time at 4 seasons, and will certainly go back...

What do you guys think about a Colt 6920 Magpul edition for $2,500 new.

Overpriced. You can find much better deals.

Congrats. I have about $300 into my sport (on top of the NIB price which was $610), I made it into a death machine. [laugh] They are incredible rifles, you won't be disappointed.
