I'm currently attempting to home gunsmith my first AR platform, a S&W M&P 15 ORC. It came factory as a carbine, and I'm attempting to put a MAGPUL MOE (fixed) rifle stock on it.

I've got some of the basics out of the way, such as ensuring I have the correct size buffer tube, buffer spring, and buffer. In swapping the (fixed) carbine pinned-adjustable stock for the fixed stock, I learned that the S&W factory receiver end plate is a F****** C*** to get over the the threads of the A2-sized buffer tube.

Then, after I FINALLY get the A2 buffer tube installed, the buffer/buffer spring retention pin is not held in by the A2 tube as it was by the factory stock.

Anybody have any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong, or what parts I need?

Thanks much.

P.S. I swore a lot. A F***'** LOT while doin' this.

The end plate doesn't get used with an A2 stock. The stock itself acts as the endplate once attached. Once you remove the end plate the buffer tube will screw in a bit more and hold the retention pin correctly.

Yup, as you put the stock on it will push it in just like the end plate currently does, just bring it in nice and slow and make sure you don't bend the spring.

After scratching up the threads on my new buffer tube by trying to get the receiver end plate over them....and watching a spring go "ka-pew!!" and fall on the floor....and then wondering how the castle nut was EVER supposed to fit on.....after ALL that....yeah....it was fun.

I was considering using loctite on the buffer tube/lower connection portion. Thoughts?

Looks nice, I like that stock. As for the loctite, nope, I wouldn't, not on the buffer tube. Never have and never been an issue. Even in the service we didn't and those went thru hell and back. There should have been a place to put a wrench on the tube where the screw goes, if it didn't, just a tighten with a strap wrench.
