So, I bought a fixed stock and now I need a buffer tube for it, how do I know if it's an A1 stock or an A2 stock? I have found that the A2 stocks are 5/8" longer then A1 but I haven't found the length of an A1 stock to compare to.

Did a quick search and didn't see anything, any help would be appreciated.

I believe the A1 and A2 stocks use the same buffer tube - the longer stock, the A2 takes the buffer extension. Also the A2 screw is longer and the A1 is shorter....

Right on all counts. (Different buffer for the carbine, though.)

there is usually a 1/2" thick spacer that stretches the A1 tube to fit the A2 stock length. that is why the A2 uses a different length upper stock screw(longer). because of the spacer it has to go through.

Oh, yeah, and to actually answer the original question: the top of an A2 stock without a tube installed (but including the quarter-inch or so for the buttplate) is about 10 5/8". (A1 is 5/8" shorter.)

A2 has a different butt plate also....with a cleaning kit trap door. A1 is a solid rubber type plate.
