Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble said today the U.S. and the rest of the democratic world is at a security crossroads in the wake of last month’s deadly al-Shabab attack at a shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya – and suggested an answer could be in arming civilians.

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Noble said there are really only two choices for protecting open societies from attacks like the one on Westgate mall where so-called “soft targets” are hit: either create secure perimeters around the locations or allow civilians to carry their own guns to protect themselves.

on ABC ? wow [shocked]

Look!!!! It's a pig flying!!!

Excellent. The more people that wake up the better. Particularly in a case like this, people who would normally support gun control see people in this guy's position as an authority on the matter. If he's saying more armed civillians will help deter these types of attacks, the followers will soon follow suit.

Sad that so many people have been saying this exact same thing for years, and it takes an event like the Westgate Mall attack to get people to listen or open their eyes.

I'm going to go with the, "let's create gun free zones in public places... criminals obey laws right?"
And then increase police powers to allow unwarranted searches and carry "military style assault rifles with high capacity military clips" /sarc

Somebody will lose his job for speaking off the script.

Just sharing because I didn't know how INTERPOL appoints it's Secretary General.

The Secretary General heads the General Secretariat in Lyon, France, and is effectively the Organization’s chief full-time official.

He is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day work of international police cooperation along with the implementation of the decisions of the General Assembly and Executive Committee.

The Secretary General is appointed by the General Assembly for a period of five years and may be re-elected.
Current Secretary General

The current Secretary General is Ronald K. Noble, serving a third term from 2010 to 2015.

More relevant might be what tools are at their disposal to un-seat a Secretary General. Nixon was supposed to serve a second four year term. We all know how well that worked out.[laugh]

Also:

General Assembly

The General Assembly is composed of delegates appointed by the governments of member countries. As INTERPOL's supreme governing body, it meets once a year and takes all the major decisions affecting general policy, the resources needed for international cooperation, working methods, finances and programmes of activities.
The General Assembly also elects the Organization's Executive Committee. Generally speaking, the Assembly takes decisions by a simple majority in the form of Resolutions. Each member country represented has one vote.

We need no guns here. This is 'bama eutopia.Guns are iky. The rest of the world is uncivilized. Let them get guns. We have 'bama care. Sort of....in case we get hurt.

Later the same day, only 7 hits on Google News, with no other major news outlets picking up the story. No bias in the new media - no, none at all.

Does anyone know if previously legal gun-carriers are legal or are they perhaps "airborne porcine emulators?" Inquiring minds want to know! [smile]

That's why we need to have a few more of them.

CCRKBA issued a statement of support.

BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms concurs with Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble’s suggestion earlier today that an armed citizenry is one way to meet the threat of terrorism like the attack on a Nairobi, Kenya shopping mall last month.

Even sadder is that this is the 4th international event I can think of like this. First there was Beslan, then Mumbai, then the guy in Finland (one guy!) and now finally someone in a position of authority has a response that makes sense.

I think you meant the attack in Norway.
