I'm new to the hobby and was curious about which are some of the more active repeaters in the Boston area that I might be able to hit with my hand held. I live near Hanscom Field and have been listening to the Westford repeater (WB1GOF). Other there any others you might recommend? I look forward to hearing back! Thanks!!

Cheers!

I'm not very active on 2M these days, but if I recall the Boston-21 machine is pretty active and so is the Waltham repeater. Stretching up to the North Shore, the Danvers 2M repeater gets a fair amount of use.

Here's a couple of web sites that list repeaters. The first one shows them in map form making it easy to see how far from home they are.

146.760 and 146.970 are the most active that I know of. They may reach to Metro west

Also keep in mind that we live in a hilly region, so you might find that you can't hit some repeaters. Also, a mobile antenna or a small beam antenna, or even a better whip for your HT will improve your range a lot. I'm about 30 miles west of Boston and I can hear a few repeaters(when they're active) but can't key them up without my mobile antenna. 147.15 in Framingham is 5x5, but no one ever talks on it.
