Good 1: Jim Whittemore! With the help of fellow members of the Skowhegan Sportsmen's Club, 50+ fliers were posted all over the area. He even placed an ad in the local paper! These efforts made the difference, as there were a total of 8 walk-ons.

Good 2: The team at the Skowhegan Sportsmen's Club! These guys and gals gave Appleseed a tremendously well-prepared welcome. They extended their berm. They cooked fantastic lunches and donated most of them. They even cooked us breakfast! Their food ranks in the top three of our venues this year in ME and NH.

Good 3: Mark and Rod, the first Riflemen ever in Maine, both stepped up to become IIT's! These guys are experienced shooters from way back, and will be a tremendous asset to the Maine instructor corps.

Good 4: The new shoot POI, which incorporates the best characteristics of the Single-stage AQT (SS/AQT) and the Rapid-fire AQT (RF/AQT) by doing the SS/AQT on Saturday and the RF/AQT on Sunday, really worked well. This scheme gave us the time on Saturday for slower-paced instruction, and allowed us to run the "AQT Machine" on Sunday. As instructed, shooters self-selected how many of the Sunday AQT's to shoot, so there was little or no moaning and groaning about how tired they were. The youngsters, on the other hand, were happy as clams shooting nearly every time. During the instructor AAR, we all agreed that the AQT Machine on Sunday is the way to go. Smithy, whose new name on Sunday is "The Whip," was perfect for the AQT Machine Line Boss.

Good 5: The massed-fire drill worked perfectly. This is where the shooters have 60 seconds to run to their rifles and fire 40 rounds at the star target. (We added some extra evil by making them run through the mud pool. The kids loved it!) One team, the one with kids on it, did the usual thing, doing their best to waste all 40 rounds within the allotted time. They splattered the target alright, but with almost no hits on the star. The more mature team, the one that listened to our admonishments beforehand to fire all shots in the rifleman's cadence, slowly waltzed to thier rifles and fired 10-20 rounds, almost all of them in the star. Needless to say, we only had to do it once.

Good 6: The Evil TV target is turning into a target detection drill. The bull's eye is above center in a white circle and is not visible from 25 meters. The winner used iron sights. It can be done.

Good 7: Redchrome was real good with the kids!
