Does anyone know the legality of shooting on a vacation rental property? I have a group that reguarly plans ski and golf trips in the New England area and was curious if we could target shoot on the property in our downtime. With that, does anyone know of Airbnbs/rentals in New England that they know have/would allow shooting?

I would look into VRBO properties with large pieces of property. They are out there especially in VT I know of a few places with 100+ acres on the property that allow hunting and shooting.

They are also big $$ per night.

If you haven't seen it already, AirBnB has an entire page on rules concerning firearms.

What Airbnb thinks is irrelevant.

The property owners word is king here.
That AirBnB page is what it is. Likely written by their lawyer to try and give some cover to themselves for any issues, accidents, or crimes that may occur by guests or home owners that involve firearms at AirBnB rental properties and or to drop any property owners or guests who they feel need to be dropped over firearms.

My wife and I met a woman with a house near our condo up Maine a few years ago. She has it on VRBO and AirBnB but if you get along with her, she will rent it direct to save you the fees. She's a bit of a Portland liberal, but not insufferable. She knows the area the house is in is very Red, and her husband hunts. Not only do they allow dogs and have a large fenced yard for them, they also have blaze orange vests and dog vests for hunting season, have a hunting season calendar for guests on the counter, and a few business cards of game processors. Even if she's just playing to her audience, she's always been great to us. Nice to see some sanity in this world.

Pay me $750 a night and you can crash out in my spare room and I'll drive you to HSC and stop by McDonalds on the way there every day.

I even provide a safe for your valuables and 1 (one) BBQ dinner for every 3 (three) day stay.
Can I supply some meals for a discounted rate? Say, up to 4 people including myself? I'll wash the dishes if you dry them. No hiney touches. No awkward eye contact from the corners of your eyes. Will also remove laughing emoji's from your listings if your BBQ is decent. Doesn't even have to be great. If it is great, will supply hiney touches. Eye contact rules still apply.

Hell yeah, see you in the spring my friend.

I wouldn't care one bit about AirBNB's rules.

I would make sure I was legal.

Check the laws mentioned in this old NES from NH Andy

Per state law (RSAs 207:3-a, 207:3-c, and 644:13), you may not shoot across or within 15 feet of a road, or “within 300 feet of a permanently occupied dwelling without permission of the owner or the occupant of the dwelling or from the owner of the land on which the person discharging the firearm or shooting the bow and arrow is situated.”

You also may not discharge a firearm within the “compact part of a town or city,” defined as “the territory within a town or city comprised of the following:

(a) Any nonresidential, commercial building, including, but not limited to, industrial, educational, or medical buildings, plus a perimeter 300 feet wide around all such buildings without permission of the owner.

(b) Any park, playground, or other outdoor public gathering place designated by the legislative body of the city or town.

(c) Any contiguous area containing 6 or more buildings which are used as either part-time or permanent dwellings and the spaces between them where each such building is within 300 feet of at least one of the others, plus a perimeter 300 feet wide around all the buildings in such area.”

15' of the road. Wow.
In CT you can waterfowl hunt in "tidal areas" within 250 ft of a house.
Let me just say that I've interacted with some very angry home owners.

One time we set up below the high tide line on a beach of a very fancy house. Essentially in their front yard. 280 ft from the house.

Sure. Shoot against a written policy you have a contract with and disregard all state discharge laws in a neighborhood well within setbacks and get back to me.

I need to find the picture of a really nice 8pt taken 120’ from a friend’s house nearby.

Nobody has suggested that the renter break any laws.

So tell me when will it happen anyway. STR is a problem.
As a property owner who did STR for 10 years it became a chore. I got out. As a gun owner I’ve also seen the mess some pigs leave behind on private property. The landowner placed bolders to help prevent these f***ing slobs. In fact. It is under 1/2 mile from my house.
