An alleged intruder is in critical condition after being shot in the neck by a Mount Airy, North Carolina, homeowner Tuesday.

WXII reported that police received calls about a shooting around 4:00 p.m. and arrived at the residence to find the homeowner in the front yard with a shotgun.

I recall people having been given the advice that if you shoot an intruder, the body should be inside the house when the police get there. Just saying.

In most states, including all of the New England states, you are not allowed to use deadly force in defense of property, even in your home. You may only use deadly force if you reasonably believe that there's an immediate threat of great bodily injury.

Colloquially, these are called "turn the body around" laws.
