So...I just received my new sites in the mail from Ameriglo and was super excited. Rear site when on easy - no problems.

Time for the front site - took out old site on my M&P going left to right (from back of slide) - literally two whacks with a brass punch hammer - AWESOME.

Went to install front site - different story. I can't get it the last 2mm or so, it will not budge. (Going from right to left now). I started off gentle and as my perseverance got the best of me I hit a little harder. Now the site is all F-ed up and I can't get it all the way centered or even get it out.

Based on the picture, anyone have any tips, tricks or gunsmiths I can call? I live in Acton, MA. If there is a smith out there that can make this front site work that is fine, it's a carry gun, doesn't have to be pretty.

Thanks,
Mike

Excuse the crappy cell phone photo.

I know this is a day late and a dollar short, but I used a 600 grit polishing stone on mine to take a smidge off at a time until it went where I wanted it with one good wack. Not that it saved the sight from marking, because even with a brass punch it still got a dent. Get a stone, knock it back out, give it 2-3 strokes, then refit until it's where you want it.

Only way I know of to completely avoid marking those sights is to have one of those fancy little sight presses.

You can get the stones from McMaster.com if you don't have a local shop that carries them.

I have put three sets of Ameriglows on without issue, I did however use a buddies sight pusher for the install and removal.

If it is really really tight then try and get it off and sand it down just a bit. (Remove a bit of paint on the bottom of the sight so it starts to show silver)
I used a sight pusher on a friend's M&P and it snapped the sight because it was just too tight to move.

It sounds like if I can get that SOB out, I can make it fit. Going on a trip this weekend - but when I get back it's clobbering time. Thanks for the input everyone.

Last night I set to work on this. Got the site out (it was tight enough to mess up the other side a bit) - took a file and smoothed out all of the deformities in it. Then I compared it to the original front site to see how far it would go into the groove without pressure and sanded the bottom with 1000 grit until it fit in just as far. A couple knocks with the brass punch and good to go. Thanks for all of the suggestion
