I have a S&W 686 that can fire 38s ,38 +p and the 357 mag, can I fire the Winchester 357 SIG round in this revolver, it does not say 357 mag on the box. I am new and need to ask stupid questions. Thanks for your help.

NO

the 357 sig is designed for a semi auto and the case design will not allow for retention in a revolver cylinder

If you didn't get it from the other posts.

NO

You will hurt yourself. Your 686 is not chambered for .357 SIG. Notice it's called .357 SIG and not .357 Magnum.

The 357 SIG is basically a .40 case knecked down with a 9mm bullet (not exact but the easiest way to describe it. ) Totally different Animal. I don't think you could get it to fit in there anyway.

Your 686 is a .357 MAGNUM. It will allow you to shoot 38 Special and 38 Special +P. Be very careful to make sure you do not put the wrong bullets in your gun.

If you have other questions like that. Please ask them before you hurt yourself.

I can see how some of the ammo nomenclature can be confusing to a new shooter (i.e. 9mm Luger, 9mm Makarov, 9mm Kurtz).

It is always better to ask if your are uncertain.

I had a newbie ask me last week if he could use a box of .38 special he found in his new .380!
