I've dutifully searched both here and on the web and found nothing. Therefore, I'd like to start a thread that lists a weight reference for assembled rounds. I can find plenty of places to tell me that a 55 grain XM193 bullet weighs 55 grains. What I want to know is, how much does a full round weigh for the purposes of extrapolation.

EX

1 55 grain 5.56 round weighs X
500 55 grain 5.56 rounds weighs X*(500)

The purpose is to estimate shipping/ground transport weight. I realize that the packaging will vary and thus will not be included. I also recognize that powder weights vary as case weights etc. What I am looking for is an average, a good guesstimate.

So, how much does 500 rounds of XM913 weigh?

DTIC has the Army Ammunition manual TM 43-0001-27 in .pdf. It's all right there. Already been done for you for military ammo.

Fantastic!

That's what I was looking for everywhere. +1 for you.

So, if I read this correctly it says that 1 round of m193 =182grains
7000 grains per pound
182*1000= 182,000 grains per 1000 rounds
Divide 182K by 7000 = 26LBS per 1000 rounds

Packaging and whatnot adds another pound or three...

Thanks!
