Mrs. Mountain enjoys shooting and supports my habit, so for her recent b-day we put together this:

I used an Anderson lower from a recent group buy and added main components from Anderson for her 'girly gun' build. Basically it's an all Anderson rifle excepting the YHM fore end. I went with a mid-length gas system and an ALG Defense brake for something smooth shooting. Also note the Limbsaver butt pad. I had a very good recommendation from Warwickben for a girl ergonomically-friendly Battlelink buttstock but ended up going with the standard stock so I could install the Limbsaver. Mrs. Mountain can handle most calibers and even likes shooting .460 Rem Mag revolvers, but she's had some shoulder trouble lately so I wanted to balance light, easy handling with smooth shooting.

Anderson customer service was great, and all components were quickly delivered. Upper to lower fit was very good- comparing to what I know: better than Colt, almost as good as Windham, similar to Seekins. The #7 O-ring trick tightened up the fit perfectly.

Finish was uniform on all components. UPK / LPK were good quality. I worked in and smoothed out the new finish gritty feeling from the various pins and selector. That breaks in and smooths out eventually on any LPK but I wanted the Mrs.' first AR to run smooth and 'feel' smooth in operation. Along that line, I subbed in a Spikes trigger I had in the bin plus a JP reduced spring set. Zero complications assembling. I had Pullman pin & weld the brake. Muddy Girl camo was applied via Gunskins. Installation of the skin was pretty easy with a heat gun, and the final finish passed the critical eye of my better half.

Day after opening her gift, we headed to the range. Mrs. Mountain insisted on taking the first shots, so she first put one in the mag and fired the inaugural shot. We shot several mags of cheap ammo with zero hiccups. Accuracy seems good- we were blasting clays and bullseyes at will with a red dot from 25 yards. I took a few shots from 50 yards and easily zapped clays.

So far, Anderson gets two thumbs up from me for a solid, good quality system at a very good price. The mid length does seem to run a little smoother- at least my bride was comfortable shooting several mags with a bum shoulder. We plan to attend the NES Pumpkin Shoot, so if you go feel free to stop by and check out the girlie gun. Unfortunately, between now and then Mrs. Mountain will have rotator cuff surgery- found out about this after I had already started the project. She won't be shooting but can sit back and watch pumpkins meet their maker.

Oh yeah, legal: Lower was sold (with documentation) to Mrs. Mountain. Upon final completion, she promptly registered to her LTC via EFA-10. Mag is pre-ban & not so ugly with the skin.

NICE!! Pretty gun, and it's great that she shoots. Ya know, she can bring that to an Appleseed Shoot when her shoulder heals up. [smile]

My wife and I should be at the Pumpkin Shoot with our anniversary presents (ARs in 300 Blackout). Hope to meet you guys there!

Oh, and if Team Lonely Mountain goes over $1000 in donations for Kilted To Kick Cancer, I'll be at the Pumpkin Shoot wearing my kilt.
