Ok,
In the market for a new Glock. More of a range gun.. but.....
Have a 19 and like it alot.

I have looked at the 22 and 23 in 40, I kind of liked the 23 better, felt more like the 19. Although the 22 with the new "rough texture" was nice.
Looked at the 21 in 45 ACP, reminded me of the Beretta 92 with the Houge grips.

The dilema. I don't currently own anything in .40, no reloading stuff. I have plenty of 45 stuff.

Not sure I want to add another caliber.

Looking for some real world experience about the above choices from current/previous owners, and for the latter, why did you get rid of it?

Thanks

I'm a big fan of the G21, especially in a free state where you can get a gen 4 SF.

Really an incredible pistol. Awful big for carry, but a ton at the range or for the end of the world.

I second EC's mention of the G30... get a G30 or a G30SF. One of the softer shooting .45s on the market, IMHO. Not sure what it is, but the
gun tends to suck up recoil pretty well for its size.

I like the G30.

No good comes out of a .40.

Yup, the G30 is a sweetie too

For a range gun get a G17 or G34 in 9mm. The cost savings alone by shooting 9mm instead of 45 will pay for the gun in no time.

-Cuz.

He already has a G19. I know some people own both (a 17 as well) but unless you are shooting competition I don't think it's worth it.

I will throw my support in for the G30 too.

I have had a pair of them for years and they just eat up any (jacketed) ammo I run through it.

I appreciate the input so far. The G30 is not an option, I just don't like the 2 finger grip in any caliber.

I considered a larger frame 9mm, but it would really just duplicate the 19, no real benefit.
I use the 19 for IDPA as well and it works great.

And as far as 40 being more expensive, I priced reloading components last night, and the 40 cal stuff was cheaper, about $20 less for bullets per 1000.

so it comes back to the 21, 22, or 23

It's not 2 fingers, every G30 mag I've ever seen has a lip/base on it for the 3rd finger. [wink] Unless, of course, you have the fingers of a gorilla.

I carried a Glock 36 in 45 ACP and it was extremely reliable. A friend used the full size 45 ACP Glock (forget the model number) and enjoyed shooting it in USPSA, pin and plate shoots. I shoot my S&W 945 or Colt 1911 in 45 ACP.

I'm a fan of the Glock 21 .45acp. My son has it now because he likes Glocks the best. I took the Sig P220. I like the .45 better than the .40 because I think it kicks less but it is a bigger gun.

I've got a Glock 23. Frankly, it has a fair amount of recoil. A lot more than my Glock 34 or departed Glock 17, which is, perhaps, not surprising. A few years back I shot a friend's Glock 30 back-to-back with my 1911, and found the much lighter Glock 30 to have no more noticeable recoil than my 1911.

If I were you, I'd look for a Glock 30 or 21SF.

The .45 acp is the handgun caliber I shoot the most. I like it alot and it's what I carry for self defense. However, if you want to shoot at long range, it might not be the best choice for you. I can't hit a man sized target offhand at 200 yards with a .45acp but I can with a full size 9mm or .40 cal.and so can my son. If you might be shooting long distance, look at the .40 or maby the 10m.If you won't be shooting beyond 100 yards, the .45 auto should be fine

What is a 21SF? don't see that on the glock site.

The grip is a bit thinner, reducing the grip circumference. The grip circumference on the 21 is rather large. The SF is apparently a bit better for folks with medium-sized hands.

The 21sf also has an ambidextrous magazine catch (if that is important to you).

the 23 has SOME kick, but it's not unmanageable.

i shoot 180gr FMJ and 180gr golden sabres w/o issues.

-some of the 165gr's can be a little "hot" IMO. i.e. federal JHPs [laugh] i'm glad i got ride of all the federal i had thankfully.
