Newbie here...

I have a MFJ-1625 window/balcony antenna w/tuner - looks like http://www.mfjenterprises.com/Product.php?productid=MFJ-1625.

I also have a "Big Tuner" MFJ-989D Versa Tuner V http://www.mfjenterprises.com/Product.php?productid=MFJ-989D. I'm looking to put the antenna mount, coil and whip just off the ground outside my window, where I have a feedthru to my Big Tuner and Yaesu FT-897D as a base station, and use the MFJ-989D Versa Tuner V instead of the little tuner the antenna comes with, if possible. It's all about hiding the antenna/coil/mount behind bushes to keep the wife and HOA from fussing. I have a 70cm/2M Diamond X-50 on the roof but that was a stretch with wife and HOA already.

The antenna mounts to the coil and a large gauge ~10 inch braided copper wire, with translucent plastic insulation (no shielding) and ring connectors leads from the antenna bolt to the wing-nut tuner connection. Counterpoise wires are connected to another wing-nut on the little tuner.

What's the best way to connect this antenna/coil/mount through my feedthru (PL-259 and wing-nut terminals) to my Big" Tuner? I'm wondering if best to put a ring terminal on one end of a RG8x coax by cutting off one PL-259 terminal as shown here http://usdipole.com/instructions/6m-ring-terminals/ ? Distance would be ~10 feet.

Where best to connect the counterpoise wire too?

Thanks for the advice.

BTW, I'll be using the gutters as an antenna, but not until I can link them with jumpers.

OK - got it figured. Yes, it was an esoteric question!

An ARRL engineer reviewed the unit in 2007 and was kind enough to answer some questions. My best option is to mount the unit outside my window and run a longer 8g wire through my feedthru to the original MFJ mini-tuner, as it is specifically designed to tune the antenna and counterpoise. The extra wire will just be part of the antenna.

Nice to know those ARRL experts are there when you need them!

im not a ham, but pretty sure you can not just run 10' of wire from the coil bottom to the tuner. It will radiate and or will not allow the tuner to hit the right impedance. Why not run shielded cable, the center contact to the coil bottom, the shield to the counterpoise wire? At least then you have a prayer of transfering the right tuning impedance to the coil/whip.
