    I agree it isn't fair.

They should be given a choice.

Either unmask, or we get out the full-city-pressure fire hoses.

Isnt it just symbolic if the weak-kneed DA’s just end up quietly dropping charges or plea them down to next to nothing?

They should add more time for wearing “skinny jeans” while committing criminal acts.

makes me happy. as i said in another thread, i've got a phobia of people with their faces covered. if one got in my face with a mask on my knee jerk reaction would be a kick in the nuts. the clown would have a couple of extra adams apples.

So it makes an illegal act more illegal? Double secret illegal? Seems like more statisim to me.

How about making the use of lethal force legal against anyone wearing a mask committing a violent crime.

It's difficult to argue against it though (vs mainstreamer types) because it requires a criminal act (and a conviction for said act) as a prerequisite.

It's like for example, if there's a law that says "extra cryme for committing armed robbery while wearing body armor" (and I think this is an actual law in some places) while the premise of the law is stupid (isn't 'all armed robbery
bad? why the modifier?) in reality nobody ends up caring because the law only applies if you get convicted of armed robbery....

Reminds me of a less shitty version of those stupid f***ing "hate crime" laws. It always begs the question of "why is this modifier even necessary?"

In this situation, I think it at least establishes intent to commit the crime, and to avoid prosecution for the crime.

If a person was unmasked, they could claim that they were there to peacefully protest, or that they were a bystander that got

caught in the melee and had to defend themselves.

With this law, a prosecutor could argue that 'do you normally wear a mask when peacefully protesting'... 'do you normally

wear a mask as part of your everyday attire?'.

If they claim that they were masked out of fear of retribution, harassment, etc, what about the thousands of other protestors that weren't

wearing masks? They didn't seem concerned about it.

At least with this law in place, it would be harder for them to claim that they were there simply to exercise their 1st amendment rights.

You can still do that, you just can't do it while committing a crime.

I want to see cops pull masks, not in a violent way, just in a 'quick yank' mask is off the face way. The revolving door to the back of the line to put mask back on would be funny to watch.

I kind of agree with you here and of mixed feelings about this law. Obviously premeditation exists for anyone that comes to a protest with a mask, pepper spray, and a club or other weapon and then beats on someone. Premeditation seems like a good reason to elevate a charge too. Then again, a person might wear a mask to a peaceful protest to avoid being doxed by the opposing groups online trolls, which happens with regularity.

Given that these big brawls often happen in cities where the police show very little interest in stopping the fights and arresting anyone, I doubt this will have much influence.

That's not how this works though. From what I read, this is JUST a bonus multiplier. This isn't really involved WRT showing intent with regards to the original crime or any of that stuff.

With the rise and proliferation of cameras and facial recognition it may some day be desirable to cover your face to be able to exercise your 1st amendment rights without harassment or retribution.

Be careful what you cheer for.

Wouldnt this be along the same standard as a murder in the commission of a felony is 1st degree murder regardless of the original intent?
Taking weapons out of it completely, a guy robs a bank with only a note and a customer tries to stop it, robber punches customer, customer falls, hits head, and dies....
If these people were actually upstanding citizens who were proud defenders of freedom and truly believed they were in the right, they wouldn't need to cover up. Covering up shows everybody that they only have bad intentions and ill will, and deep down, they know what they are about to do is wrong. Their moral compasses do not work.

Will there be a Juggalo exemption?

I may be mistaken, but isn't wearing a mask while in the act of committing a crime already an automatic multiplier?

There has been a lot of news about clowns the past couple of years harassing people, they better use the same logic for all. I think it's stupid if it's just related to Antifa and not others too.

This is a stupid law designed to appease people by making them think lawmakers are Doing Something About Antifa.

All it does is make already illegal acts more illegal.

All of you in support of this law need to take a cold hard look at what this law actually does, not what its title is.
