i've been shooting a ton of it lately, mostly in my smith mod 10's. the last couple of bullet orders i've received had more 125 gr. rn & 158 gr. swc than anything else. i try to shoot 38's in 38 specific handguns for really no particular reason but recently have put a bunch through a ruger old model 357 blackhawk i've had for a while and never shot before. (i've had it 35 years [angry]) another fun gun for 38 i've discovered is yet another 357, a redhawk with 5.5" bbl. i'm running some light wc target loads in it. it's like shooting airsoft. they're shooting fairly tight at 25 yards off a rest. i'll run those through a chronograph next time out.

just for conversation, anyone else like to give their 38 sp. a chance to stretch it's legs. what do you have for 38 handguns if you don't mind sharing. i'm wishing i had a 38/357 lever gun right about now, just for my amusement. who has the lever gun?

I shoot 38 special out of my revolvers b/c my club indoor range doesn't allow magnum rounds/loads.

Shooting s&w 60-15 pro-series (3" J-FRAME) and s&w 327 TRR8 (5" N-FRAME).

world of difference between the two. Been looking for a (the right) lever gun in 357 for a while. Not in a hurry, but is on my short list.

Ruger GP100, SS, 6" barrel with Burris Fastfire on it; I shoot plates and bowling pins with it; .38spcl for medium bore, .357mag for big bore.

I've also got a Rossi .38/.357 lever action that's just lots of fun to shoot. Doesn't get taken out of the safe enough.

Loading Blue Bullets for .38, I'd have to check, but I think they're 135 grn; on top of TiteGroup.
Loading XTreme's 158 for .357mag on top of Accura #9.

I have an old s&w 586 with 8 3/8 barrel. It loves either the little 38s or the big 357. Revolvers are such a pita to clean

I bought a lead cleaning cloth and that made the world of difference. It's still a pain but a lot less so.

I have a 6" 686 no dash, 642 Talo, 3" 65-5, 4" Model 67 and an old former police Model 36 snubnose. My two favorites are the 686 and the 36. The 686 is so heavy it aims like a laser. The 36 is so light it's incredibly easy to get a great rhythm for getting back on target. I've been lusting after a Henry Big Boy in 38/357.

Several 357’s but my son and I regularly shoot .38 out of a Ruger Vaquero. It’s just a good time and for more laughs do a few cylinders of 357

I have a S&W 627 V-Comp and a Model 327 TRR8 that I shoot 125 Gr. Blue Bullets over Clays in .38 Special for Steel Challenge. Also a S&W 686 and a couple model 10's. Colt Official Police and a MKIII. And a Rossi Model 92. And I've got some of those 215 Gr. SWC from Mike to load up.

38 special is my favorite cartridge. I love the revolvers but my favorite is my Uberti 1873 with my Marlin 1894 being a close second.
I shoot mostly 170 grain RNFP but have run everything from double round balls and 75 grain wadcutters to 215 grain SWC and anything in between.
If you like shooting handguns wait till you try a lever.
Lobbing 148 grain wadcutters with 2.5 grains of clays sounds like a 22 quiet out of a rifle barrel.
I used to go 9/10 on about a 14” steel at 200 yards resting on my elbows.

you could pull the trigger and pull your muffs off to listen for the clang of the steel. Hell half the time I wouldn’t wear muffs while shooting them they were so quiet.

I took a special liking lately to my S&W mod 10
.38 sp. I have a Acquired three over the years 2-6” inch heavy barrels one black one nickel and a M&P.38 snubnose Pre mod 10 manufactured in 1948 Love the history of them and the quality especially. Snub nosed is a great conceal carry pistol

I have the same in stainless and it is my wife’s favorite to shoot with 38’s for plinking. I will have to get a lead cleaning cloth to try on mine.

357 mag/38 spl is also my favorite caliber. I use 357 mag brass and load them to 38 spl velocities when I want to shoot light loads. A lot of fun for sure.
Next to no recoil in my 8" Dan Wesson [laugh]
I could shoot magnum or light loads all day

I routinely shoot .38 from my GP100 chambered in .357 (usually steel plates), and as I grow older, I prefer the .38 to .357 (but do shoot these on occasion).

Now that the commies are in power and ammo is scarce, I am much more conservative in using ammo on a regular basis, sadly.
