As some of you know one of my "holy grail" guns is a 1911 of some sort.

Since it will be a safe queen and a twice a year range gun, I'm not looking to drop a lot of money on one.

The Remington 1911 R 1's are 599 at MFL,

I stopped by Al's in Derry today looking for a box of .38spl ammo to replace what I shot off last weekend, and I was asking him about the Remingtons.

His price was 639, not a deal breaker, but when I told him that it was going to be a safe queen rarely fired gun, he suggested a
Taylor & Co. 1911 in the 450 dollar range.

I was trying to be practical by going with the Remington, I can't see spending Kimber type money on a gun I will rarely shoot.
The price for the Taylor is an attention grabber, but I'm more about value than price. Bang for the buck with decent quality

So if anyone has an opinion on the Taylor, or even the Remington 1911 R 1, I'm interested in hearing it.

Interesting. They are manufactured in the Phillipines by Armscor. Cheaper Than Dirt had them for about $425. I dunno, maybe safer to go with an Auto Ordinance for a little more. Of course you could be the first kid on the block with one, right?

Might be nice. Why they make a 1911 marketed toward "wild bunch" matches and put a M1911A1 thumb safety is beyond me. Other than that I know nothing of the piece.
