Got a Gen4 G17 with the 02 RSA in it, and I ordered the "improved" one from Glock this AM. Anyone else been down this road?

The 02 worked OK but I still get brass off my forehead occasionally.

Mike, I just swapped out my G4 G17 RSA. Haven't got a chance to hit the range yet.

What's the different with the "improved" one. Still listed as 02 on the RSA.

It take about 3-4 weeks to get my RSA from Glock. They send me one with a return envelope. I need to return my old RSA which has been good for me.

There's like a "1" or something on the bottom of it, and apparently the new one further addresses ejection issues, and it also fits in all the G17s, both the "recessed" nose ones and the flat nose ones.

When I first got the 02 ( several months ago) I called them up and talked to their regular tech support. This time they transferred me to the "Recoil Spring Department" so they even have a special line/group set up for this issue.

It remains to be seen how it will work, but I have to say Glock CS is top notch, at least at the front end. I don't think I was on the phone for more than like 6 minutes total and only about 30 seconds of it was hold time. NO AUTO ATTENDANT, either. Humans!

I think I do see "1" on the botton. I call glock as they are doing a volunteer recall for all G4 RSA (except G4 G26/G27). I got the RSA about a week ago (about 3 weeks after my initial call), but didn't got a chance to install it until monday night.

As of Glock CS, I agreed they are top notch. I was on the phone for less than 5 mins. The CS just need the serial no. and my shipping info.

I will try to hit the range and report back.

Mike,

Not to throw your thread off track, but are these new recoil springs for all Gen 4's?? Because my new Glock 21 Gen 4 throws brass off of my face all the time and forehead, thought I was shooting the damn thing wrong or something. [rofl] If this is indeed for all Gen 4's, I may replace mine as well. Thanks.

EDIT: I just noticed it is only for Glock's purchased before July 2011. Oh well. I guess I will wear a mask while shooting. [rofl]

Check the born on date on the shell casing packet. It's possible you got a gun that had been sitting in the channel for awhile.

The RSA recall is for all of them except for the G26/G27. (Which near as I can tell, has exactly the same recoil springs the 3rd gen versions do).

Why not just call Glock. 1-877-745-8523 with your serial number and model number. They will determine if you get a replacement RSA or not. It's a quick 5 mins call.

ahh I will. thanks.

I got all new RSAs for the Gen 4 Glocks I currently have. For G19,-no more cases in the head; for G17, the new RSA had no effect. Glock CS told to send it in and they will replace extractor and ejector. I think it is worth a try.
My G35 has had no problems whatsoever, either before or after recall.
Best,
hessy

I haven't had any problems with my Gen4 19 yet (it's dated before the cutoff, but not by much), so I'm hesitant to call. I know they want the old RSA back, but I'm assuming they're not going to hunt anyone down if you don't send the old one in, eh?

For the record, it came with an 04 spring, but I've heard the replacement is an 04 "3".

Well, you got a point. I guess the package will be lost during transit to USPS. [laugh][laugh]

Just checked my G17, I received a new 0-2-4 RSA (right). My previous one do not have any mark on it (left).

I have two, and one of them is like the one on the left, and the one they sent me is like the one in the middle except it doesn't have a "1" on the bottom.

My 17 hasnt had any issues minus the occasional brass to the face, but glock accidentally sent me 2 of the new ones. I also have a glockmeister 4th gen conversion recoil assembly . If the new spring isnt fixing your problems , try out the GM recoil assembly

Put about 100 rds down the Gen 4 G17 with new 0-2-4 RSA last night. So far, I don't see any differences. Still have some brass flying in all direction. Aside of this, this glock is well behaved.

I called Glock, they said any firearm with an SAV serial # has all updated hardware. I told them I had brass flying everywhere and he said if I wanted to ship it back they would replace the extractor. I guess I'll wait. Besides the occasional brass off my face or down my shirt, I love my 1st Glock Gen 4. At least I know now I'm not the only one with brass going every which way. [smile]

If brass is hitting you in the face, I would expect that to be caused by ejector and/or extractor issues.

i gave up on gen 4's and sold it , and picked up a nice old stock gen 3 brand new from 2009 , the plus is the nice black teflon slide, it even came with an older non MIM extractor.

Just wanted to update with my personal experience. I hadn't had any issues with my Gen4, but finally figured I'd give the new RSA a shot. At the range last week, slipped in the 04-3 spring, and brass immediately started pelting me in the face &/or just barely sailing over my shoulder. One mag worth and I quickly switched back to my original 04.

I can't really say that I've learned anything here, but I'm still happy with my G19 as it shipped from the factory.

I have 3 Gen4s and so far 2 of them have ****ed up, (brass at forehead) but now the 21 Gen4 is out. They fixed the 17 Gen 4 and it is great- it works perfectly, even with weak ammunition. My Gen4 G26 has been perfect, no problems at all.

My guess is there is some secret squirrel stuff going on with the ejector/extractor in some of these guns that Glock doesn't want to fess up about.

I'll find out in a week or two whether or not the fix is in on the 21 Gen4.

Range trip? [smile]

I want to get the Glock 21 Gen4 due to my small paws, and want to see just "how" different it is compared to the 21-SF's I've held... and Held out buying once the Gen4's started coming out... lol.

I shot the glock 21 gen 4 a few days ago and it's a very large weapon. IMHO carrying it would be ridiculous. I will say it shot beautifully and I would love to own one!

Have you held the .45 M&P, and if so, how would you compare the two as far as grip size?

I haven't held the M&P yet but my friend did just get one. He said it's a very comfortable gun to shoot and carry. He did not get the full size. I believe it's the 4 inch with the ten round capacity. I'm going to shoot this soon. If it's half as nice as he's telling me it will definitely be my next purchase!

There is ZERO size difference between the 21SF and the 21 Gen4 (sans backstrap). It recoils differently, but the difference isn't that dramatic. I recently sold my 21SF to a member here, only because keeping it with the Gen4 was duplicitous, or so I thought. [laugh] The main difference is you get stippling and a "larger" magazine release on the Gen 4.

I have used fine grit sand-paper and lightly "sanded" down the aggressive texture of all my 4th Gen glocks. Just a little off the surface to not bea the hell out of my hand.
