Was checking one out yesterday, and it seems like a nice rifle for a range toy/HD application, and is pretty sweet looking. I was actually looking for the Keltec sub2000 in 9mm, but ran across the Highpoint, and the guys at the shop were raving about it being the best value in the store because it is quite accurate, inexpensive, tacticool, and has a lifetime guarantee. I put a deposit on one to hold it while they run all the background checks (out of state), but wanted to get some feedback on it from here if anyone has experience with it. It seems better built/sturdier in construction than the Keltec, but doesn't have that cool fold up feature, so I'm kind of on the fence between the 2. The nice thing though, is that I can just take the Highpoint carbine home, but the Keltecs seem to be on permanent backorder everywhere I have checked. They are both very close in price, so that is not a factor fwiw.[wink]

My friend has one and it's a tank, but it does shoot accurately. It doesn't disassemble for cleaning, so buy a bore snake...

...or just throw it way when it's too dirty and buy another one since the snake may cost more [rofl]

Seriously though it's not bad, especially at the ridiculously low price. My only complaint would be the 10 round mags make you wish for 30's.

You'll get flamed for owning one, but I own a P3AT so it won't be by me [wink]

How low are we talking here? New, or used? I am interested in these, and thought they were out of production.

Yeah, I have seen flaming for people that mentioned the Highpoint name, but that was generally in regard to the handguns. Seems to be a mixed bag with regard to the carbines, though. I love ARs, but really just want a fun pistol caliber carbine to play with for now, and both of these that I mentioned are at a price point that makes them a no-brainer.[wink] Didn't know that you can't break it down for cleaning, that is something else to consider. Thanks for mentioning that. At least with the sub2k, you can fold it in half to clean the barrel, and chamber super easily.

I saw the Cabela's offering for $250 that xtry51 posted above, but didn't see that until after I put a deposit down. I found the Cabela's one while shopping online for tacticool accessories.[wink] The one I put the deposit on was something like $279, so it wasn't a huge deal anyway. The Keltec I was looking at is around the $300 price range, so they are very close competitors price wise.

I'll add it is decently accurate at 100 yards. 3-4 MOA with WWB. Never shot it further than that. Personally I think that's pretty good for a sub $300 rifle with iron sights.

Check again. You may be getting one with a vertical foregrip... a ~$25-30 option. Very common for them to be ordered/sold that way. Sometimes dealers leave the vertical foregrip in the box, so it may not have been on it when you saw it.

Well, I will check that out, but from what I remember it just came with 2 mags, holder for them to mount on the tactical stock, and a strap. I'm not positive, but there may be 3 mags total in the box. I'm pretty sure I will snag it anyway around the 1st, because that's when I will supposedly be cleared by the state of CT (I'm from MA). I'm really hoping to find a sub2k for the glock 9mm mags before that, though. Who knows, maybe I will just get both.[smile]

Do these Hi-Point carbines take Glock, S&W, or their own magazines? Are there larger than 10 round ones available?

The Hi-Points take proprietary single stack mags. The factory mags are 10 rounds. There are after-market ones available that take 15 rounds but that doesn't help us in ban states.

Nice... looks like you found Riverview.... I stopped in the other day, they had several. You may have the red dot in that gun, mine did. I own one and gotta say, it's my most fun carbine to shoot. I own 6 AR's.... this thing is a blast, almost as much fun as my MP15-22. As for break down, it does break down, the factory doesn't recommend it, just minor bore snake and clean the bolt area.. They say this gun shoots forever without hardly any maintenance and yes, the factory support is supposed to be the best in the business.. if you need it. As for magazines, only factory mags are recommended and I agree as I tried a couple aftermarket ones and quickly found out them to be not perfectly functioning. The factory website has parts for sale really cheap too... I've shot several different kind of ammo with zero problems and it really does repeat and "hit the spot" it's aimed at!!! I like it alot and feel pretty compfortable using it as a HD gun as well... better than my AR's as the bullet travel should be confined to a closer proximity.. it's shorter and more compact as well in tight situations.. so overall.... a win win for this gun. Dave has them in stock and they come in 40cal and 45acp as well... I looked for reviews before I purchased mine and couldn't find a bad one, only guys saying they were embarrassed to say they own one.. but the gun was flawless... :) as for the variable price... it can vary depending on what options it comes with. When comparing prices, make sure it's apples to apples. One more thing Term... I had mine transferred and in my possesion the same day... I may take a ride out to Agawam Revolver today and tear up the range with mine... along with my AK.. :)

Great review, thanks Jack! I see you compare it to being almost as fun as the m&p15-22, which I also want to get for a range toy, but they are so much more money than this carbine, it's almost hard to justify. I've even seen used ones that are over $425.[rolleyes] These damn hobbies are killing me!

Today is a whole lot better than the old days, back in the day, drinking was my hobby and it was killing me... I could go out on a friday nite and easily spend a few hundred bucks and wake up with a hangover and no money the next day.. Today, I can go out to eat with my wife, and wake up the next morning and have a new gun in the vault.. and money in my pocket!! I like this hobby... I also quit smoking a couple years ago, that gives me about $400.00 a month to play with!!

We had a blast... me and the wife hit the range after the race.. we shot em all... great fun, the AK is amazing, the MP15-22 was just hammerin away with the wife not putting it down... and the HP9mm... just another blast. Shot another flawless 100 rounds through it. Think I'm gonna take the front and rear sights off now. Don't see any reason to have them on, I have the red dot that came with mine and like it lots more than regular sites..

Man, I wish I could have joined you yesterday. I had to stay home with my 9 y.o. daughter, because my wife was out for the afternoon, and she isn't comfortable yet with me exposing our daughter to the gun stuff, or the range just yet. As I told you, she did go with me on Sat, ,though, and shot for her first time. Check out my post in the general discussion area here:

Some weekend, we'll have to meet up down there, and bring our wives, so she can feel more comfortable shooting with another woman.[wink]
