What should be inside it and how many for each rifle? Reason I ask is that I was trying to build-out a few lower receivers and ended up launching one of the take-down spring pins and sent it into orbit. It eventually came back to Earth, but it took awhile. [smile]

Sort of got me thinking as to what extra parts I should get in order to supply an emergency inventory, e.g. springs, pins, etc.

Thanks.

Are you talking about a kit for home or spares that go with the rifle? I have plenty of spare everything at home (include complete rifles,) the only spares I keep with the rifles are an assembled bolt and a firing pin.

Well I think you are meaning for long term right? I would go with the springs and other small items that you can put into the grip, buttstock, or a foregrip. I know people use those for batteries for optics, but what would really be more important for "YOU". I have thought of this as well, but then you would have to think of tools and where to store those, so it would be best to just keep them together in a bag and inside a molle pouch if that is what you run with. I have thought of looking at some A2 stocks and see if one could be hollowed out more to hold some stuff.

Charles.

I bought a few o shit kits on line few years back....came with assorted parts? I tossed it the butt stock space...

The detent springs are handy to have spares of if you ar building a bunch from scratch. For spares after the rifle is built and in serice. A whole bolt is nice. Extractor spring and washer and retaining pin are good to have as they get lost and or need replacing morethan many other parts.

I've never seen one wear to the point that it won't function. Just seems like an odd thing to carry around with you.

every day carry: G19, surefire LED, Emerson CQC 12, and a carbine gas tube

lol, no I don't carry it around.

gas tubes are like $15. they get fouled and will wear. cheap enough to have when you need it (think parts shortage--remember that like 6 months ago?)

Ahh, from the brevity of your list I assumed it was part of a "field kit."

I change gas tubes when I change the barrel. The tubes always seem to outlast service life of the barrel.

like I said, I have a "full parts kit" at home: another AR15 [smile]

I seriously question how many spare parts you need because once you start accumulating extra barrels, receivers, lpks, bcgs, etc. you might as well just build another... where does it all end???? when you run out of $$$ I guess

Having a spare rifle or two certainly isn't a bad idea.

Put an AKM inside of your parts kit bag.

Then go slay some chicks instead of worry'n bout your shitty airsoft guns.

My ARs are "safe queens." I call them that because that's what I pack in my car when I dress drag... just so I know how you guys must feel 100% of the time.

but in all seriousness? Gas tube/hammer/punch/allen wrench + bolt. That's what I'd do. Those are the weakest parts in the AR system, and the tools are to help you put your gas block on and off when your gas return tube explodes or clogs up with bullshit. The bolt is for obvious reasons.
