I'm in a bit of a quandary and need some help. I ordered an Ace skeleton stock from Midway to replace the non collapsible stock on my DPMS AR 15 but upon examining my rifle it looks like I need a new buffer housing, full size buffer and a new spring not to mention the wrench to get the whole assembly off the rifle. Am I correct in this assumption? Any help would be greatly appreciated

If your original stock was an A1 or A2 you should be fine. But if it was a pinned or fixed position collapsible you probably do need a full size buffer tube.

If you're careful you may be able to remove the lock nut without the spanner wrench but it does make it a lot easier.

Depends on what you have on there now.

It's either an A1 or A2 type stock (most likely an A2). The most you might need is a spacer for the tube/spring (and even then it should function fine without one)... probably a $3.00 item.

Stock buffer, spring, and buffer tube are fine.

No special wrench is needed... any wrench that will fit will do.

Be careful when backing the tube off so the buffer detent and spring doesn't come flying off. Same thing for the rear takedown pin detent and spring.

Put a little grease on the buffer tube threads before installing.

Also, lightly lubricate the outside of the buffer tube with a bit of oil... it makes the foam tube slide on much easier.

Be very careful, the aluminum is brittle and crushes easily, don't use a vice grip (I know, I'm an idiot for even thinking of using one).

I had a little trouble with the skeleton stock, when it was screwed in, the pin that holds the spring into the tube would get pinched when I screwed the whole tube in all the way, and wouldn't travel freely. I just ended up not tighening the thing down too hard.

Just for laughs I called DPMS told them that I want to remove the stock from my AP 4 and was told yes,I will need a new buffer tube, buffer, spring and probably the wrench to take the little bugger apart. I may not have been clear as I have the mass compliant genuine non collapsible collapsible stock.

If you have the pinned MA compliant stock, then you'll need an A2 tube/spring to go with it. I never had a folder, (pinned or otherwise), so I'm not sure if you'll need anything else....I like the ACE stocks - I had one for a while on my Colt, but man did that cover get funkadelic stinky...

Does't he just need the tube? My pinned bushy stock had the standard buffer in it so just had to replace the tube. Are there two different size buffer springs?

I oiled the S**t out of the tube to get the cover on, what a PIA [crying]
