AR-15 Trigger Upgrade

AR gds are two stage that feel like a single stage, there is a first stage that is ounces ounces with a tiny bit of take up that is so lite it feels like slack then it breaks clean after that and the reset is real short. In short there two stage triggers that feel like single stage triggers.

I have one, it's no two stage. They may claim it is but there is almost zero take up. The reset is awesome though.

I'm looking for thoughts and recommendations on a decent trigger upgrade kit for an AR. Something that pulls and breaks like an M1A would be nice!

What are you looking for in the new trigger and how much do you want to spend? Are you putting together a bench gun or just looking to get rid of the 9 lb pull on the factory trigger on an m4 style?

Dave

Not sure what a M1A trigger feels like (but I would like to find out!). I like the RRA NM 2-stage trigger here. Clean and crisp when it lets one fly and not as pricy as the other fine triggers recommended in this thread.

They do say two stage but I had to look it up before I posted, the first stage is in ounces barley feel it the second stage is where the 3lbs comes in. It definatly does not feel remotely close to the Gieselles which I have short with a noticeable first and second stage. OP if you can try as many as you can before you drop trigger money$$$ and not like what you buy. Try before you buy!

I have an M1A Loaded and my AR has a Geissele SSA. Of the two, I'd say the SSA is better. I haven't fired the M1A in awhile though. I'll give them both a dry fire tonight and confirm this.

If you want a trigger like an M1A, then you want a two-stage trigger.
There are really only 2 options: the Rock River for $125 or the Geissele for more than double that.
I have the Geissele, and it's really nice. But I'm not convinced it's worth more than twice what the RR sells for.

The Geissele SSA is $175, not $250.

I don't have a trigger pull scale, but the SSA in my AR is clearly lighter than my M1A. The M1A has a great trigger and it's nice and crisp, but it's a bit heavier.

The SSA is a non-adjustable version of the service rifle trigger you're thinking of. It's a great value.

Jason, you're right. The one I have cost $275. Great trigger; don't get me wrong. I have a spare rifle that I think I'll try the SSA in.

Question: who has both types of Geissele triggers? And your thoughts?

I do. I stated out with an SSA because it was cheaper and then "upgraded" to the adjustable version later on. I managed to royally F up the adjustments and my scores dropped until I had Jeff fix it for me. Now it feels pretty much just like the SSA that I started with. [smile] Honestly I think the SSA is just as good as the service rifle trigger for most shooters and probably better for newer shooters like me who'll just screw up the adjustments anyway. When you get to the point (like you're at) where half an ounce on the second stage makes a real difference that's when the full adjustable trigger makes more sense.

I also have a Rock River in my backup rifle but after being spoiled with the Geissele I can't stand shooting with it. I think the SSA will end up in my backup rifle and the RR will either get sold or go in my kid's .22 AR.
