When last cleaning my AR, I noticed the bolt was missing 2 of the 3 gas rings. Ordered a new set and reassembled, now I notice bolt does not move freely in the BCG, feels snug, moves only with moderate finger pressure. Is this normal, or should bolt slide back and forth freely? Have not fired yet.
Thanks for your help

thx, I should be all set then. I did notice the older ring is a tad thinner than new ones. Assume one size fits all, they just wore out..

It's normal. They'll wear in.....like piston rings.....because that's what they are. Put a few dropsof oil in the two vent holes in the carrier and work the bolt back and forth a few times.

See "School of the American Rifle" on youtube about lubing an AR.

Was your rifle functioning up to the point of cleaning?
