I recently finished my AR and took it out to the range for the first time last week. It is a stag model 2t. I have had the lower for about a year and just recently got the upper. (Both Stag)

Anyways, I took it out to the range for the first time a week ago. I put 90 rds through it, 60 were Federal Bulk Pack from Walmart, and 30 were wolf. The rifle functioned perfectly.

Fast forward to today. This time I brought 30 rds of the federal bulk pack, and 90 from an American Eagle 200 rd value pack of 5.56 ( I believe this is XM193). I loaded up the rifle with the 556, aim, pull trigger, and all I hear is a click. pull the charging handle and eject the round. Try again, same thing. Third round, same thing. All failed to fire. There was a visible primer strike on all the rounds.

I then tried a mag of the Federal 223, and they all fired fine. I went back and tried another mag of the 556 and almost all of them fired. When all was said and done about 10 out of 90 rounds of the 556 Failed to Fire. Yet every rd of the 223 functioned fine.

My question is where do I go from here? I guess it could be the ammo, but I doubt it because that is supposed to be good stuff. Also, doesnt mill-spec ammo have harder primers? My only guess is that the firing pin is not striking hard enough for the mil-spec ammo, but its good enough for the 223.

TIA for any help..

Does your lower have "target" springs in it?

When you take out the bolt does the firing pin move freely if you shake the bolt?

Did u spray down your new upper BCG with oil?

Is it going fully into battery?

ETA: It could just be a bunch of sucky rounds.

No, I probably shoould do that, but it already seemed oily. lol.

I think so.

It just could be a bunch of crap rounds. Keep in mind that some of the military primers require a harder hit than OTC ones. Also, its hard to tell from the pic but those primers almost look as if they are seated too far. Compare the primers if the ones that shoot with the ones that dont and see it they look like they are in there deeper? Looks like you put a pretty good hit on it..

Looks like a good primer strike to me. I suspect as others have indicated you may have gotten some bad ammo. Perhaps do a google of the Lot# of the ammo if you still have it to see if anyone else had and reported a similar problem
