AR15 Upper in 5.45x39 ????

As I look to get an upper for my NES lower ( soon to be delivered I hope), I am contemplating getting an upper in 5.45x39 - to take advantage of all the current tins of ammo running around $120 for 1080 rounds...about $0.11 per round currently...

SO far I have seen 2 uppers advertised around ( on AIM website), both running around mid $5's

Olympic A2 type

S&W M4 type ( can't double check from behind work firewall to see if this is the correct ) - I think this is flat-top A3? type....

Any thoughts, opinions as to which type is better, etc. Any suggestions of other types available...Any Piston type uppers in 5.45x39 exist ?

How about sources of parts, barrels to do a build yourself in this caliber...???

All the 5.45 ammo that is in spam cans is corrosive... No matter what the seller might say! So keep in mind that if you shoot the stuff, cleaning will become much more important. I'll tell ya cleaning out an AR gas block every time you go to the range is gonna suck big time.

Go with a 22lr upper... ~2.3 cents a round... And they aren't corrosive.

I agree about the problem of the corrosive 5.45x39 ammo , and the idea of having a gas-piston version versus gas tube...

About the only gun I would consider shooting corrosive in would be a bolt gun. Just too much of a hassle having to clean the guts of a semi auto.

The word on those uppers is the 5.45x39 ammo is very corrosive and is destroying the barrels.

I would think you could find a decent AK-74 for the cost of just the AR upper.

Piston type upper included at no extra charge.
