I didn't want to hijack the other posters thread asking about general AR recommendations - so I thought I would post mine separately.
I know there are forged lowers, cast lowers, lowers machined from billet aluminum etc. Is there a preferred construction method?
All AR lowers are supposed to be "Mil-Spec" but I've heard many say that if you go with some of the "economy" $60 lowers from Shotgun News - They'll be so out of spec as to be useless.
I've read it's silly to buy a brand name lower because mil-spec is mil-spec...but then again I've seen posts say you get what you pay for (a $150 lower is NOT the same as a $60 lower).
For what its worth, I have taken my own advice and trolled AR15.com and M4carbine.net, which to be honest made things worse - just more diverse opinions and more debate.
What are some of the thoughts here?
