Hi - anyone know if there's a special 'Mass version' of the p220? I'm specifically wondering if it's something I have to be aware of when considering a purchase over the internet. Thanks.

Unfortunately they are not all Mass compliant, for example the DAK versions are not. Go to the Sig website, click on the model you're looking at, click on "specification," scroll all the way to the bottom and it will say "MA Complant: YES or NO."

Generally speaking only the "plain-Jane vanilla" DA/SA versions are compliant.

Not to hijack this, but I got to shoot a 229 DAK at my club one day last year. A young police officer had one. It had a great trigger and I actually preferred it over my DA/SA 229.

Thanks for the info - does that mean that a DA/SA from another state would be legal? I'm wondering if they've got a Mass-only version of the p220, like Kahr does with their PM9. The Mass pm9 has the chamber indicator that isn't on non-mass versions.

I have a P220 that is about 15yrs old and I bet it isn't compliant as it has no loaded chamber indicator. I am in Maine though, but figured it would give you some info to know that. SO not all P220's are compliant.

If it was made after 10/21/98 it has to have an LCI in it and the hidden serial number, to comply with the AG regs BS. P220s that are speced out as pre 10/21/98 are exempt from the AG's regs.

Your gun is actually compliant, as it was made before the cutoff and it is on the EOPS roster.... that gun is transferable by any MA FFL that has a functioning brain. [grin]

ETA: For those reading this is the same mechanism that allows dealers to import pre-98 Glocks, as well... same exemption.

No. Most of the SIG P series models (like the Elites, etc) do not have a loaded chamber indicator among other things necessary to comply with the AG BS.

Depends... The only difference is the barrel (has a LCI drilled into the chamber) and the mags (10 round max, though that shouldn't really matter for a p220.) I have seen Sigs with the LCI for sale in NH before so it's possible that they've standardized by now.

Of course you could always just buy a used one face to face from someone in MA and not worry about all of that crap. Probably save a few bucks too.

I remember that day vividly ;-)
