The problem is I live in communist NY. Under NY law you can only have one of the following or it is considered an assault riffle.

“Assault weapon” is defined as:

A semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least two of the following characteristics:

  • a folding or telescoping stock
  • a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon
  • a bayonet mount
  • a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor
  • a grenade launcher
Since it has a pistol grip it cannot have a flash suppressor or threaded barrel.
Does anyone know If I can just have a muzzle brake installed and have it pinned to make it legal?
I was looking for a different barrel, however I couldn't find one with what i needed. plus i dont want to pay 2500 bucks then end up buying another barrel.

Thanks!!

I am not a New Yorker. I am guessing that your state AG office is similar to my previous state's (MA).

However, according to the Federal Government when asked a muzzle brake is permanently installed when it is either welded in 4 places around the circumference of where the barrel and device meet, blind pinned and welded (most common), or soldered in place with a solder of a melting point of >1100 deg F.

As for the stock on that rifle I would be aware of your local AG's belief on how your stock is made to not telescope.
