From the New Hampshire Union Leader:

MANCHESTER – Bullets flew outside the Uptown Tavern early yesterday when a peeved patron began shooting at a doorman after being thrown out of the club. The shooter himself was shot twice by an armed customer who rushed to the bouncer's defense, a club owner and police said.

The shooter had missed doorman Chad Ryan after firing about four shots at him in the 1301 Elm St. club's parking lot when the alleged gunman was himself hit twice by the unidentified patron who returned fire about 12:45 a.m., said club co-owner Dave Somers.

An armed citizen does more in the span of ten seconds to get a violent criminal off the streets than all of Boston Mayor Tom Menino's gun buybacks, task forces, and bigoted gun licensing policies, combined.

I'm shocked.

The wounded suspect, identified by police as Eliezer Encarnacion, 26, and his companion -- both of whom were thrown out of the club moments earlier -- ran from the parking lot up Myrtle Street with an angry group of club patrons in pursuit.

Well, I'll be damned. Wearing running shoes might just be a good idea, after all.

Encarnacion was about six to eight feet from Ryan when he fired the first shot, hitting the door frame, Willard said. When the second shot rang out, a male customer inside the bar realized what was happening and intervened, he continued.

"He feels the bouncer's life is in danger and he produces his own firearm and proceeds to return fire," said [Det. Lt. Nick] Willard, who credited the patron with saving the doorman and possibly even Brown from being shot.

Or, he could have ducked behind a table and called 911, as called out in Chapter 1 of the "Self Defense for Liberals Handbook". Sure, innocent people would be killed before he hit the "9", but at least the coroner's office could get a headstart on sending a clean-up crew to the scene.

Police withheld the patron's name while they continue their investigation, which will include an inquiry into whether his use of deadly force was justified.

Club employees were not aware the customer -- described as a regular patron -- was carrying a concealed weapon, Somers said.

That's pretty much the whole point of it. Hence, the phrase "concealed weapon".

"I'm not okaying it. But if he didn't, probably my doorman would be dead," Somers said.

A small price to pay, in the eyes of the Ted Kennedy's of the world, to realize their dream of transforming the greatest nation on earth into a totalitarian police state, where only those in high positions of power will enjoy the right to have their lives defended by the use of firearms.

Now...compare and contrast:

NEW BEDFORD [Massachusetts]-- Police continued their hunt late today for an armed suspect who shot two people and slashed another inside a popular gay nightclub.

The incident occurred about midnight inside the Puzzles Lounge on North Front Street. A bartender, who asked that his name not be used because he feared for his life, said a man armed with a hatchet, a machete, and a handgun attacked patrons before he fled the bar.

GASSVILLE, Ark. --A teenager suspected of a hatchet-and-gun attack in a Massachusetts gay bar shot and killed a small-town police officer and the teen's passenger before he was critically wounded in a gun battle with police Saturday, authorities said.

Any questions?

I think a ban on nightclubs might be in order. Or at least a background check and permission from the chief of police before attending one.

As many here know in a few years the Mrs. and I will likely be moving to North Carolina.

Down there its illigal to carry in any place where "alcohol is bought and consumed".

Just another stupid gun law proven wrong in the Real World.

Arrrr

Also realize that in the same (NH) situation, the patron (if this happened in MA) would have been arrested, all his guns confiscated along with LTC, name in the paper, and charged with attempted murder.

Unless he was related to the bouncer, his chances of walking free (in MA) without a conviction would be extremely poor (his life was not imminently at risk).

Huge contrast in what you can do and how you are treated afterwards!

i thought that it was illegal to carry in a bar

im a bouncer in boston and wish i could carry...id feel alot safer with all the scumbags i have to deal with

BH,

Please read my other response to the post of "where I can't carry legally in MA".

LOTS of people "make up laws" in MA and that even includes cops. ONLY schools are prohibited by MGL in MA. All other "prohibitions" are "rules" of private owners (any clubs, sports facilities, even town buildings, etc.).

I could make a "rule" prohibiting UNARMED people from entering my property! [wink] I could wand them, x-ray what they bring in, and tell those that don't comply to leave (then if they don't you can arrest for criminal trespass once warned and non-compliant). But it still doesn't make it a law.

Likewise employers can make all sorts of rules, but these only can be enforced on their employees and visitors as a "rule".

well unfortunately thanks to that waste of life that murdered that girl in NY we now have to have bacjground checks performed and cant carry any kind of defensive weapon

BTW,

Boston has it's own set of "rules by fools" as their City Council dreams up all sorts of garbage and creates their own "law" (city ordnance) that they can enforce. [NOTE: State Courts will not usually deal with city/town ordnances, only enforcement of state laws. But Boston has its own "Municipal Courts" which CAN enforce their own dumb laws.]

Hey Len,

Not that I am questioning your statement but do we have a legal precedent of something like this happening in Massachusetts. Do any of our Legal Eagles have a case "changing the names to protect the innocent" of this going to down either like it did in NH or like we believe it would go down in MA?

Info from the video:

The perp received two shots to the leg and one to the wrist. I guess you take what you can get. If and when I find myself where TSHTF, with no options, and get a few COM/head shots, I'll be critical...

"A patron took out his licensed gun and shot back." The reporter must be from MA - people have CCW permits here, guns don't have a license. Or, more likely, just your average crime reporter ignorant of any aspects of law enforcement or crime (but on top of the latest fashion trends).

The shooter: three counts of 1st degree assault and one of possession of a gun without a serial number. I sure hope he didn't have a legal CCW... Now why would someone have a gun with a filed-off SN? Unless you are a mafia hitman dumping a gun after a hit, what's the use? OK - too much TV for me, I guess.

Sorry, be we don't have permits here. No one need ask permission. You have Pistol and Revolver License, although you're right, it's the person that's licensed, not the weapon.
