Well, I had to do it. Just bought my first ak an arsenal SLR 101s. After doing a bit of research on here and elsewhere I believe that it was the best option for me and at a reasonable price. I am just waiting for the muzzle brake to be welded for ma compliance before I can pick it up. I also purchased two pre-ban hungarian magazines from a member that should be on their way shortly. I am very excited to get it to the range and am already planning a few upgrades for the future.
-combloc customs combloc red wood furniture(I just love the wood furniture) and maybe a hogue pistol grip.
-Parabellum Armament AK Adaptive Rail System
-Optics TBD but probably a simple red dot.

I know that for the most part steel cased ammo is recommended any other tips or suggestions?

Can't wait to get it to the range, maybe I can take a video and some pictures.

steel cased works well (make sure you treat it as corrosive ammo- clean the rifle right)

brass works well (yugo m67 7.62x39 is the only brass that you'll find that's worth a shit - accurate and consistent, but it's corrosive so treat it as such)

golden tiger is really nice ammo (accurate and consistent)

don't use hollow point ammo- that shit hangs on bullet guides and is generally inaccurate. When people post about feeding issues, it's usually because they're using HP ammunition.

Shoot corrosive ammo, throw it in a mud puddle, let it rust, love it because it is an AK.

I must be in the minority because all my AKs run HP just fine.

I have gotten a corrosive batch or two of Russian steel cased ammo and found rust because I didn't bother cleaning after shooting. Must have been left over corrosive primers in some Tula/Wolf but I had 2 rifles rust up this year.

That plus this heat and humidity we've had this Summer. IIRC, Wolf primers aren't usually corrosive. Can't say the same about Tula primers.

Wolf and Tula are pretty much the same but there are rumors of both manufacturing plants sometimes using old corrosive primers.

Brown Bear is another Russian company known to do this but more often than Wolf and Tula.
