I was checking out the Barrett .50s today after reading a discussion in another thread regarding a .50 BMG upper for an AR-15 lower. I can't say I have ever been that interested in a .50 BMG, but eventually I would like to have a nice long range rifle. Until then, my .308 is more than enough gun for distances I can shoot at my range.

Well, Barrett's new 98B may not end up being my ideal long range rifle, but wow is it sexy. The rifle is chambered in .338 Lapua mag, and, as stated by Chris Barrett, "make no mistake, this rifle is not an evolution of anything". Check it out. For $4,495 I think I can wait, but if you buy one let me know!

Given that the ammo for that thing is in some cases MORE than .50 BMG, I don't see those flying off the shelves.

And that's where I think they f-ed up. I had heard through the grapevine, (reliable grapevine) that as an F-you to places like Kalifornia, Barret was going to "crank out" ammo and they simply did not follow though. Imagine if they did and 338 was available for 15-bucks a box? How many rifles would they sell then? I think they dropped the ball on this and the California 416 calibers...
