I recently acquired a LNIB Beretta 1201-FP that is listed as 6 +1 with 2 3/4 shells but I can only get 5 in the tube, the 6th goes in to the end of the high brass cap but no further. It cycles through the 5 +1 without a hiccup but nothing Ive done will get the 6th in... Any ideas?

IIRC, the original 1201-FP magazine capacity was 6 rounds, but at some point they modified the magazine (adding a groove running around the circumference of the magazine tube, about 4" back from the muzzle, which keeps the follower from moving past that point) to accept only 5 shells.

This^ is exactly it...WHY???? I guess I can put a pistol grip on it now.

Has to do with 922r Compliance, foreign made shotguns cant be imported assembled with magazine capcitys' greater then 5 rounds in a semi.

Hmm. Mine takes 6 in the tube no problems. Never knew about the modification.

When my agency first got our 1201's the guns would take 6 in the mag tube. a few years later when we bought some more they would only hold 5. We contacted Beretta and were told they could no longer import semi auto shotguns that hold more then 5 rounds. Recently we upgraded to Benelli's and low and behold they came with 5 round mag tubes. Benelli told us they can only sell them Assembled with 5 round mag tubes, but we could install the higher capacity tubes ourselves and that Benelli does have them availible as an accesory YMMV

IANAL, but I believe that would be a violation on 18 U.S.C. 922(r)...

It shall be unlawful for any person to assemble from imported parts any semiautomatic rifle or any shotgun which is identical to any rifle or shotgun prohibited from importation under section 925(d)(3) of this chapter as not being particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes...

LE is exempt from 922(r)...

...this subsection shall not apply to--
(1) the assembly of any such rifle or shotgun for sale or distribution by a licensed manufacturer to the United States or any department or agency thereof or to any State or any department, agency, or political subdivision thereof...

...but non-LE installation of said magazine would appear to be a violation. Again, IANAL.

Beretta would not sell them to us with 6 round mag tubes, as of last year neither would Benelli. This could be a corporate decision, they have no problem selling us the 6 round tubes however.

Does anyone here know of a light setup in existence for this gun? I read that while the stock of the super 90 will fit, that the fore-grips are different and don't line up correctly.

Yes this is correct. A super 90 stock will fit but the fore-grip is unique.
The original collapsable stocks were banned during AWB and never again made available to the public.
Very expensive and hard to find. I found one on GB or GunnsA a few years back. They wanted 5 or $600 for it. I'll Pass, that's more than I payd for the shotgun.
I believe a regular Benelli M4 pistol grip stock will fit as well.
A friend offered to give me one a few years back & I never took it.

Any idea about a light mount?

Nope. I've seen different legnths on the magazine tube. Depending on how much space you have past the tube you could possibly use a universal barrel clamp with picatinny rail and small powerfull light. Just beware of overtightning the clamp. The barrel on the FP-1201 is thin.

.

Wouldn't I need two evil features?
(d) A semiautomatic shotgun that has at least 2 of—

(1) A folding or telescoping stock,

(2) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon,

(3) A fixed magazine capacity in excess of 5 rounds, and

(4) An ability to accept a detachable magazine.

This Shotgun only accepts 5 rounds...What am I missing?

What I quoted, I pulled from ..how would my 1201-fp that takes 5 rounds and a pistol grip be any different from a benelli m4?

That wasn't quoted from my post, nor did I supply a link, but...

Basically, 922(r) prevents the importation or assembly of foreign semi-auto shotguns in "non-sporting" configuration. Adding a pistol grip (ruled as "assembly" by the Feds) negates the "sporting" designation, as it would not be importable in such a configuration, and therefore violates 922(r). Again, IANAL, but I would suggest some research on 922(r) before moving forward.

sorry, not a link I guess I just googled 18 U.S.C. 922(r). And maybe you can answer this but what makes this different from the m4?

I guess what I quoted may have been "added" by someone to the website.
