I can't remember which 92F is the better unit. I believe one had a cast frame but old age has lost the info out of my head.

I'm not sure which is made in Italy. I always thought they all where made there. I have owned several, the 92fs in 9mm,and the 92fs in .40. Awesome weapons.! If you do a little research, you will see when the military made the choice to switch from the colt .45 to the 9mm, part of there test was mrbf,(meaning # of rounds before a jam or faliure) The 92fs I believe, don't quote me was in the range of 50,000 plus rounds. If it's got enough for our troops, well, enough said, lol. Good luck with it and enjoy it You will love it.Just came to me,lol MRBF= mean rounds before faliure. Good luck!

i find the italian guns are all around nicer. fit finish smoothness etc. I have seen a lot of the US made guns showing tool marks, swirls etc. Does not make them bad, just more like military grade guns..

cool. These are the answers I was looking for. I had a 92F 11 years ago and sold it. Couldn't remeber which one I had. First time I used one was in the marines. I was hooked then. Never should have sold the first one I had.

I'm in the market for a 92FS right now, though I'm waiting on my funds to work out before I really start working. Are the military M9s Italian or "non" made?

I remember way back when they first came out you could only purchase one made here in USA. I don't think they were ever imported here from Italy bu I may be wrong.

I may be wrong, but weren't they initially made by Taurus in Brazil
for Beretta.
I don't mind being wrong because it happens so often.

(edit)
Ahh!!!! a little internet foreplay (Wikipedia)

"The Beretta 92 was designed for sports and law enforcement use and, due to its reliability, was accepted by military users in South America. A large contract for the Beretta 92 was with the Brazilian army, for which Beretta set up a factory in Brazil. This factory was later sold to the Brazilian gunmaker Taurus. Taurus made pistols under license from Beretta based on the original Beretta 92, calling it the PT92. The PT92 can be distinguished from its' Beretta counterpart primarily by having the safety mounted on the frame as opposed to on the slide like the Beretta."

i have an italian made 92fs and fit and finish are on par with any Sig or HK handgun.

bought it at Four Seasons 4-5 years ago when i first got mty LTC..it was my first handgun..and is still one of my favorites.

they had a US made model on display, but i specificly ask to see if they had an italian made version that i could see..which they did.

the guy helping me was Lyold..he was trying to get me to purchase a Sig..friendly joking that is ok that im going for the "meatball "instead of the "sour kraut"..lol

soon after i did get a p229 .40 and every other handgun/rifle under the sun..lol

So is there any truth to the rumor that the italy units have better machining done to them as opposed to the us units? And what was the FS designation difference?

FRANCO- Yea I have a Sig 226 in .40 and it is a nice piece. I still like the 92 as an all around fun carry piece.
