Beretta NEOS .22LR... opinions?

My mother used to say "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all".

I have a 6" Inox with aTruGlo red-dot.

Pros= eats all ammo with no FTF ever, easy disassembly/cleaning, integrated rail for optics, good open sights.

Cons= worst trigger ever, tiny grips.

I bought it so my 13yr old could shoot in junior pistol club. Big mistake, as the trigger is so rough it's hard to hit black at 25yds. Also, the grips are so skinny(even for him) you can't get a decent hold of it. Would be a great plinker but not a good choice for target shooting. I should have done my homework :-(

Ah, but that is the point: I WANT the good and bad. If it sucks, say so so I can offload the thing and get something better. I have never bought a target pistol, and this thing is fairly new to market; it looked good, and fits my hand like a glove, so I got it. Red dot is a POS, but that is a minor issue if the gun itself is horrible. From what I can tell from just holding it and dry firing during initial lube and cleaning, the trigger feels a little stiffer than I would like, but so did the Ruger SR40C before it got worn in. The weight is nice and balanced, and it seems like it snaps into alignment as soon as I bring it to bear.

Granted, all this is without ammo or a mag in it, and I still have yet to get to the range with it, so it is all just theory currently. If someone has actually fired one of these things and hated it with the fiery passion of a thousand suns, speak up and tell me WHY, it may not change my mind on the gun, but at least I will have some insight before I go and put rounds downrange.

You're not getting a lot of opinions because it is not approved for sale in MA.

If it were, I would consider one as a plinker just because it looks kind of cool.

[shocked]

...is it the 10 round mags, or the fact that it is a scary gun?[laugh]

So very happy I don't live in Assachusetts right now.

For a MA firearms DEALER to be able to sell one, Beretta would have had to submit them for testing, etc., which AFAIK, they have not done. Same reason we can't buy new handguns from Colt, Kimber, Springfield Armory, etc.

The time to get opinions is before you buy something.

BAHAHAHA!

...This is true, but I got it NIB for cheap, and even if it sucks for a target pistol, I don't yet own a plinker. It was a risk I was willing to take at the time. Now that I have this though, I have to determine if it will be suitable for a target shooter, or if it should be relegated to my plinker, and my next one will fill the other half of the equation. I liked the 10/22, might look at that if this turns out to be a decent starting target pistol.

I have a fairly severe form of ADOSD(Attention Deficit Ooo Shiny Disease) , called ADOLATGD(Attention Deficit Ooo Look At The Gun Disorder) in an advanced stage. It's chief signs and symptoms are:
1.Entering gun stores when one does not have anything needed at that time
2.Putting money down on a gun that you will not be able to afford until next paycheck and
3.Buying a new gun outright because it "feels right" in one's hand, even if it means possibly having to juggle funds around to make it fit the budget.

It's a horrible wasting disease, and one I am proud to have.

Little update here:

Took the Neos to the range on Sunday(finally got our range permits for Great Swamp). This thing is VERY accurate. I was shooting very tight groups right out of the box with no ftf. It ate every round I threw at it, including golden garbage, and it was fun to shoot.

The red dot, on the other hand, was a piece of crap. Low left initial group, 7 clicks up and right put it high right... over 40 clicks back down and left and it still shoots high right. Never getting a BSA red dot again... Might look into a holo sight or something.

I had a Millet that was good for a few years before the red dot began to stop holding zero. I use and recommend the Match Dot Ultra Dot on my Bullseye target pistol. It is not cheap, but is a very high quality sight that lots of guys I compete with in matches use. so, if you're done screwing around with crappy sights, go Match Dot. http://www.larrysguns.com/Products/Ultra-Dot-Match-Dot-30mm__UDMD30.aspx

Phew! I was getting worried... I only have two out of the three symptoms.

As for the Neos...

My buddy, MikeinNJ, has one. I, personally, don't really like it. Just didn't fit my hand well. He likes it, though. No accounting for taste.
