I'm interested in getting a .22 conversion for my full-size 1911 and wanted to get some ideas for some of the best models out there to look for.

Any information or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Best for accuracy (competitors use it) is Marval. Expensive and very difficult to find.

Best general use is Advantage Arms. Moderately expensive and difficult to find in stock anywhere. I have one and it was on Backorder for 6 months before it shipped. Runs great on my S&W 1911 and my Colt 1911.

The people that I know that have a .22 conversion on their 1911 have the ones made by Marvel and seem to like them a lot. These are people in bullseye competition, so if you are just looking for something to plink with you may be able to find one for less money that would suit your needs.

Thanks for the quick replies - those both sound well above my needs. I'm looking for something in the $300 +/- range. The Kimber had caught my eye but I figured I'd ask the experts here before doing anything impulsive.

Thanks

Go with the Marvel if you can find one. I bought mine on Evil-bay for less than you are hoping to spend. They are not considered a gun by themselves and can be shipped without restrictions including direct from Marvel for around $430 last time I looked. They also sell a plinker for about you are hoping to spend. I think they call it unit or model two.

I have the Kimber .22 conversion on my A-O 1911 GI. Looks good and works flawlessly!!!

Paid $300.
Only complaint is the plastic mags that Kimber sells are garbage!!!
But I have a fix for that if you should get that one.

I am running a kimber as well and have had no issues with it either. I bought mine used on craigslist.org for $150, I know it was a steal and its in mint condition.

I have one of these. Well worth the money, engineered, machined, and thought out. PM me if you want more info. I'm pretty familiar with them.

I haven't used the Marvel but have heard good things. I also have a Ceiner. Not a reliable 1911 conversion, although I have their AR unit and it works great.

And I have the Ciener 1911 kit and it works great. I'm told that QC is spotty and some work great where others don't . . . plus there is no support by the mfr. Scott's and my posts prove the point . . . one is reliable and one isn't, it's a crap shoot.

I have a Marvel Unit Two on a Caspian frame, very accurate, but it seems to need some more breaking in to be more reliable. I'm still not sold on the quality of the plastic mags that it came with however.

Be aware that a lot of these conversion kits are very picky about ammo, and may not run on the cheap bulk pack ammo.
