In response to @GAY4HK’s post, now I am curious to who makes the best AK rifle in 5.56 (Sig 55X and Galil disqualified). By best I mean, built like a tank, goes bang every time, and shoots under 3 MOA and won’t blow up at 20k rounds. Not a skinflint’s rifle. Also don’t care about Bakelite everything “classic” rifles. I want a folder, that I can attach a red dot to, a light, and can suppress the sumbitch.

Don't do this

Buy in 5.45 or 7.62 like a grownup
I have a shit ton of 5.56. Ballistics are similar with 5.56 having slightly better FPS and muzzle energy at a minimal recoil penalty. I also already have a shit ton of 300 BLK and 7.62x51. I don’t need more calibers. Getting good Russian ammo is getting harder and the price advantage is gone.

I have to second the 5.45 suggestion, unless you are dead set on 5.56. The ballistics are functionally equal with an equal barrel in terms of standard loads. Terminal ballistics heavily favor 5.45 when talking about 7N6. FMJ to FMJ is similar. Reloads are case by case - literally.

As far as a suggestion, since you said no Galil, I would have to say FB Radom Beryl if you are going 5.56 AK.

I’ve got a 556 norico. I’ve never shot it.
The commies made it so it’s probably pretty good.
I’ve listed for sale couple times. No one‘s interested it might be the price.

It’s kind of rare.. your probably looking for modern stuff unless you live in Massachusetts.

As the old saying goes? They don’t make them like they used to

Have you guys checked pricing and availability of 5.45 lately??

yeah, runs a dime a round more than 5.56. Once Putin's head rolls, the sanctions will go away and 5.45/7.62 will go back to being cheap and readily available.

If he doesn't want it, he doesn't want it, so be it - which is why my suggestion is for a 5.56 AK

Lmao the breakup will send those prices even higher. And no, those sanctions won't go away - regardless of who is the Whitehouse. Just ask Norinco.

I’m going to have to stop you right there.

Have you seen the vast array of bullet/load offerings in 5.56?

Don’t get me wrong, I think the 5.45x39 is a pretty neat cartridge. But there are quite a few 5.56 options 5.45 just can’t match. 5.45 you have FMJ (including 7N6, but plenty of 5.56 bullets outperform it) and V-Max. And that includes reloading options.

If you want an AK, get an AK with PROPER AK caliber. If you want an AR, get an AR with PROPER AR caliber. Don't do this "I am an AK but identify as AR" bull!

Once you settle on who you identify as and want a proper AK, take a look at Rifle Dynamics or Iron Curtain Customs. Both are very reputable and build amazing guns. Cheap they are not.

If you want a high-end AR, get Daniel Defense DDM4 V7. If you want a high-end AR AND flex on poors, get LWRC Individual Carbine.

LWRC is for the poors. Wanna flex, get a Taran. Some of the tier 1 Ukrainians are using Taran builds now.

7N6 was versus m855, head was thinking fast, hands were typing slow. Hand loads are case by case.

Lmao

Undertaking this choice without realizing that x39 anything has a huge supply problem RN is just fag talk.

Normally id even agree with you but this is a serious problem for people not sitting on at least a few thousand rounds of x39.

No doy. But if you’re going to be stubborn about it, Gerg already gave the correct answer, although I’d probably prefer the lighter SLR106FR.
I’m not being stubborn. I asked for best AK in 5.56 and you replied with a not AK. And then you chimed in with SLR106 as opposed to SAM5. I don’t recall seeing anyone else mentioning SLR, so that’s a real answer, so slow your roll.

I was packing up ammo this weekend in preparation for our move. As I did so, I was like "oh, another case of 5.56 that I did not know I had. Wow, a whole case of 69 gr Federal Gold Match. Hmm, what's in the this rubber sleeve? Ah, another 200 rounds of 7.62. Hmm, what's under here? Ah, another case of 7.62x39."

I'm such an effing pack rat.
